DaffCr 0
Hi, I am trying to host a game of GR. I have searched the forum for 2 hours but found nothing about my specific issue . I am behind a router (Sweex, LB0000213A). I did portforwarding to my ínternal IP on ports 2346-2349. Disabled XP firewall. Nothing is happening when my buddy wants to join my game. When I disconnect the router and plug my intenet cable directly in my comp I can host fine. So something in my router is not right. A Ventrilo-server is running on my Mac, the portforwarding therefore works ok. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! PS. In my router I can control: Port Forwarding: Entries in this table allow you to automatically redirect common network services to a specific machine behind the NAT firewall. These settings are only necessary if you wish to host some sort of server like a web server or mail server on the private local network behind your Gateway's NAT firewall. Virtual Server: You can configure the Broadband router as a Virtual Server so that remote users accessing services such as the Web or FTP at your local site via Public IP Addresses can be automatically redirected to local servers configured with Private IP Addresses. In other words, depending on the requested service (TCP/UDP) port number, the Broadband router redirects the external service request to the appropriate internal server (located at one of your LAN's Pirvate IP Address). Special Applications: Some applications require multiple connections, such as Internet gaming, video conferencing, Internet telephony and others. These applications cannot work when Network Address Translation (NAT) is enabled. If you need to run applications that require multiple connections, specify the port normally associated with an application in the "Trigger Port" field, select the protocol type as TCP or UDP, then enter the public ports associated with the trigger port to open them for inbound traffic. Recluse 0
Simplest thing: Are you sure you are giving him the correct IP address??? Your LAN IP (probably 192.168.x.x) will show up in Ghost Recon screen, but this isn't the IP he needs to use. Use the WAN IP which is probably showing in the router status page, or you can get it by visiting http://www.whatismyip.com Sounds like all the port fwding is OK. If you have ports fwded in VIRTUAL SERVER you probably dont need to do it in Special Apps, but it shouldn't hurt. Recluse P.S. Hmmm if he is reaching the Ventrillo server, then I guess you are giving the correct IP addy..so maybe I am off base here. I host behind an SMC router (but not using Win XP) and it works fine. DaffCr 0
My buddy has my public IP#. I tried all the options: portforwarding, virtual server on the same ports and open the ports on special apps, but still nothing. The strange thing is, when I disconnect my router and plug my internet cable direct into my comp, my buddy can join my game in a split second... Someone said something about DMZ, but I don't know what it is. Well, I keep waiting for a genius to help me out... Edited April 16, 2004 by DaffCr
DaffCr 0
Ah... I figured out what DMZ is and enabled it on my router and YEAH, I was able to host! The thing is: it's not safe at all. But at least I can host some fine GR.
Recluse 0
I checked my router settings and this is what I have setup for forwarding: 2346 TCP/UDP 2347 UDP 2348 UDP Seems to work just fine. Perhaps you didnt enable TCP on 2346?? On my router, it requires 2 entries in the VIRTUAL SERVER table. One for the TCP and one for UDP. Recluse P.S. I am sure you know this already, esp since you set DMZ correctly, but it you have the LAN getting IP's dynamically from the router, it is possible that the LAN IP may change and all the forwarding is going to the wrong machine. People often say you must use STATIC IPS. My 3 machine LAN is setup with dynamic IPs and every machine always gets the same ip everytime and has for years.... so I dont think it is an issue with small LANs.
