Crimson 0
I just spent $70, the mojority going to this beast of a heatsink, and next day shipping, lol. Anyone out there in GR.net world use one of these monsters? I changed my mind to the V12, but was originally going to get this AeroCool heatsink, and slap two 80mm fans on it... then I read something. Due to the sheer size and weight of the heatsink, I had concerns about the 6-lug tool-less mounting on the AMD solution. I decided to run some stress tests to see the effect on the socket. I used an Epox motherboard that had perished during an previous experiment gone wrong. The test simply consisted of mounting the heatsink, and seeing what kind shocks the socket area could take. The socket was completely ripped off when the motherboard was placed in a vertical position was given a 1/8th inch drop. Yikes! The V12 does weigh more though... but I'm 100% sure it'll fit on my A7N8X.
NYR_32 6
I was thinking about grabbing round cables when I bought my new PSU but decided against it....got them flat ones tucked away...when I got my new HSF I went with a AL-CU hybrid cause the all copper sone are heavy lol. Crimson 0
I finally sat down today and did some cable management. After about an hours worth of work, you can actually look through the window in the case and see stuff, lol. Odd thing is, is that my CPU temps. went up 2C... with more airflow! Then again, that might just be the ambient tempurate going up because of the hot California days we're in.
WhiteKnight77 1
Then again, that might just be the ambient tempurate going up because of the hot California days we're in. I get the same increases as the weather warms up and I don't have the AC on. Dont' sweat that small increase, as it's not from rerouting your cables.
Crimson 0
As long as my temps. are under 45C I don't get worried. I'm really looking forward to be able to control my fan speeds.
Crimson 0
Well, my new EXTREME VOLCANO 12 HS/F arrived before I got home from school, ahead of schedule. (NewEgg and FedEx really have their stuff together... two days flat!) This HS/F rocks! I have the fan at my complete control. With the fan at about 1/3 of its max power, it is just about silent. My CPU idle speed is 32C... the exact same with my noisy Vantec HS/F. Now, when I max out the fan at ~6,000 RPMs, it's like a tornado in my case. You can hear it from anywhere in the house clearly. It keeps the idle temps the same, but I'm sure it knocks down the load temps, which I've yet to test. This was my first time installing a HS/F, and for a n00b, it was relatively easy. It was harder getting my Vantec off than getting this 700+ gram beast on the socket. I highly recommend this HS/F to you AMD users out there. Thermaltake for life. CR6 0
I'm curious what kind of thermal paste did you use?
Crimson 0
Stupid of me to not even mention. Arctic Silver 5... good stuff too.
