Lancer
Standard British DPM, no badges and no berets. Basically nothing that makes them stand out.
MarauderMike
Standard British DPM, no badges and no berets. Basically nothing that makes them stand out. That said, they are distinguishable (as are Delta, JTF2, SASR) both to and from regular line infantry by their weaponry as well as their tactical equipment (LBV's, body-armour etc). Of course the best shots (IMO) are those of these types of SOF in mixed civilian/military dress (as shown in the link above by Avey), distinguishable close-up, but looking like locals from afar. Not always. Take the SAS patrols ("disguised" as UN troops) that mapped the lines in Bosnia. They carried SA80's and standard British Infantry equipment as well as wearing insignia from other branches, like the Royal Engineers. But most of the time they are different in some way. Right I should have qualified that with a "usually" and "not when on covert ops". Cheers.
Sgt.Crocodile
The SAS has been my favorite SF unit since i first got interrest for military action, history, equipment, etc. The more i read about the SAS, the more i admire those true heros. These are pics from: Operation BARRAS - Serra Leoa - 2000 Operation Scud Hunting - Gulf War - 1991 Malvinas/ Falklands - 1982 Kosovo - 1994 Northern Africa - 1941-1943 Afghanistan - 2001 I'll post more pics as i find them. McNamee
But most of the time they are different in some way. yea, they're harder to shoot! [EDIT] - Great pics Croc! The guys in the Falklands enjoyed themselves then!
MarkVanDamme
What is that insignia on David Stirling's shirt (above the pocket)?
Dick Splash
Marky boy.......that's not Stirling you numpty It's ZZ Top before they became famoUs. The badge is the SAS Parachute wings. The Falklands pic is of an OP from 148 Battery Royal Artillery attached to the Marines. The Battery is an OP Battery and they wear the Green Beret just like 29 Commando Battery R.A. The bloke in the middle wrote a book caled 'Falklands Commando'. DS Edited April 16, 2004 by Dick Splash

Dick Splash
SAS wings are worn there? as well as the "Badge Qualification Para"? Or instead of? Come on now 'Mr RAF Regiment' ............ .........SAS wings are a different design than the Para wings. As for them wearing them on their chest........I dunno really. I've seen several WWII images of this. DS PS. The Falklands bloke is Hugh McManners, and the 'Union Jack photo was taken on Southport beach and the Kosovo pic' is definitely Catterick Edited April 17, 2004 by Dick Splash
