Final steps to a home network game (Almost there!)

Recommended Posts

As the rather long title suggests, after reading through ten pages of threads here this evening...I have finally managed to configure the game on two home pc's through a router. When either pc creates a new game and then assigns that player to a team, the joining player can see first the unassigned and then finally assigned player. This suggests that each pc are seeing each other, but the joining player cannot join and no game starts.. :(

Does this ring any bella with anyone as to what may not be set correctly? Anyone have any ideas as to what is going wrong?

Thanks in advance

Are you trying to create a new game through the internet or through LAN? At my house we use a LAN connection when we play on our networked computers.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to GR.net! :rocky:

Yeah we are going through a LAN, and I have also tried through the net aswell...same result for both. Also tried with remote access allowed and disallowed and with/without password for this, also tried with a game password and without.

It just springs to mind...there is an area in the multiplayer section, bottom right with behind firewall and port No...I can not edit this part at all...from either pc?

Thanks for the welcome BTW.... :D

The firewall and port issue could be the problem. However, I am not the computer guru here, so just sit back for a few and someone(s) will come along and give you assistance with this.

Make sure that on the MP tab in options, it is set to default (it may not be able to be changed) for the network interface. If it is, try and ping each PC using their each others IP. Does the server even have a name? If it is unnamed it may not show (I am not sure of this though) also.

You may have to go into your network properties and assign an IP (that your router can handle) to each PC NIC.

When you start GR and go to the MP screen, you should automatically see the LAN screen. If there is a game being hosted on it, you should see the IP or name of the server.

Also, If you are running WinXP on any of the rigs, make sure that it is disabled.
