firefly2442 0
A friend of mine had a computer here a week ago that had a hard drive burn out. He had to get another one and reinstall everything. I would back everything up and see if you can run any diagnostics on the hard drive. If you bought the hard drive, oftentimes they will have a CD packaged with it that has diagnostic software. WhiteKnight77 1
Have you checke to see how much space you have alloted for system restore? If you have a full HD due to the fact that restore has taken it all, it will slow down (this is for XP).
RooK 0
Something else to check is what mode your harddrive is running in: PIO or UDMA. You can do this by going into device manager > IDE controllers > right click on ide channel the drive is on, go to advanced. Your drives should all be operating in some form of UDMA, otherwise transfer speeds will suffer.

Brass 0
if you cant get your retail store to replace the HDD then you definately can replace it with the manufacture. Western Didgital is really good about that in that respect (hopefully its not because of lots of practice ) all the others arent bad either. just look at the repective webpage for RMA (Return Material Authorization)
