Ryan243 0
And Civ. Oh I loved that one. I haven't played it in a couple of years though.
the.ronin 5
alpha centuari is prolly the better of all the civ-style games. cool concept ... you are part of a u.n. crew sent out to colonize alpha centuari when the cryo-chambers explode several months ahead of schedule, the colonists split up into factions based not on race but on ideology. so you pick between the capitalist (WOOT), the militarist, the environmentalist, fundamentalist, research people, etc etc. its a nice mix of allocating resources to developing technologies for weapons or colonization or devoting them to building armies or lavish cities (the capitalists require lavish cities) or ... NUKES. you can nuke your opponents but that will bring forth trade sanctions which can bankrupt a colony. not to mention, a retaliatory strike! also it causes the local life forms to increase near your cities and cause havoc. oh yeah and your people will go on strike and you cant build much of anything. i like forming "pacts of brother/sisterhood" with people, get them to let me build airbases in their territory, cancel my pact and attack them with forward stationed air fighters. p.s. if you try to quit the game, it goes "dont go - the drones need you! they look up to you!" hahaha Edited March 25, 2004 by the.ronin
Ryan243 0
I'd have liked that one.
The_Slink 0
I love that game. Once I swapped most of my border bases which were under heavy attack with another faction. Gave me the turns I needed. Another time I took Lal out in one turn! Ryan: You'd probably love it. Check www.firaxis.com (something like that (dog-slow connection so I can't really check. Sorry)) for the well written backstory. the.ronin 5
Once I swapped most of my border bases which were under heavy attack with another faction. Gave me the turns I needed. nice strategy dude!! i will usually help opposing factions when they are down to one base by giving them one i set up way out on the edge of the map. theyll do anything for you after that ... you basically saved their empire. otherwise i avoided fighting at all cost until i get air superiority. then i build a massive air force and then i refuse to take crap from anybody. heck sometimes ill demand succession of bases just for the hell of it. power rocks. The_Slink 0
Another one is to give an opposing faction a base close to hostile territory that isn't well developed (perimiter defense etc.). You can cripple them like this. They usually swop and then require massive resources to build them up. While they do so, strike. Choppers are cool. That's how I took Lal down in a turn, Singularity choppers.
the.ronin 5
i just reinstalled this badboy. man, this is the only other game that i know of other than gr that ive always gone back to ... but it even predates gr by a number of years. what a great game. cmon ... are slink and i the only ones that play this? slink ... i discovered the power of CRAWLERS. ill find a remote are of a map and send a fleet of terraformers to raise the level to maximum. then i send over a fleet of crawlers to harvest mad MAD energy points to ONE single base. it becomes like a force multiplyer when you focus that base on discovery. its like a super city for research galore. ill setup some airfields around the solar field and station some air-to-air needlejets on patrol to protect em. sick.
