mordred 0
Hi im trying to build a bridge (plane) , i converted it to mesh and selected the both side and detached them, i made the rest (middle part) a floor polygon. But when in gr i can walk towards the side, and i fall through, i cant figure out why.............its not to be supposed 'walkable'....... hmmm ( the bridge is to connect 2 mountain parts)
sleeper 0
Your bridge floor must meet up perfectly with the rest of your floors, maybe even overlap them a little to make sure there is no space between them. Make sure the bridge floor is not checked non2d collidable in the map editor, a floor must be 2d collidable or it wont work. You can also leave the sides tagged as floor as well (bottom too, but I wouldnt suggest it). The sides can act as a "step up" if thats how you have it.
The Worm 0
But when in gr i can walk towards the side, and i fall through, if you mean you fall off the side, maybe you nee some railings or an invisible (unrendered) wall along the bridge.
deleyt 0
If the distance from your bridgefloor to the floor underneath is smaller or equal to 0.7meters and there is no collsionwall then the character will step off the bridge and onto the floor underneath. If the distance from your bridgefloor to the floor underneath is bigger then 0.7meters and there is no collsionwall then the character will be sticking to the edge of the bridge but won't fall off (so called "sticky edge"). To fix the sticky edge you need to make a collisionwall that prevents the character of walking up against it: - Make a vertical plane that follows the edge of your bridge. - Then tag it as follows in the Map-Editor: non-3D collidable, not rendered You don't need to set anything else. Your character will not step off the bridge or experience a sticky edge anymore.
mordred 0
It seems to work, but its not aligned properly yet, 1way i cant fall off, the other i can..........problem is i cant get in my ######ing max nomore it keeps crashing my system, the loading screen appears and when it say 'starting max' it ######ing crashes all over the place grrrrrrrrrrrrrr maybe if i try to load it into opengl?? but i dont know how to.......... did anybody experience such a crash or is it a corrupt file orso?? i cant follow no more............. deleyt 0
You can try copying your "3dsmax.ini" and then delete the original. When the program starts it automatically makes a new .ini and sets it up with the default settings which for the render-engine should be "software" I think. I know of some instances where the thumbnails and file-properties that are saved with an .max-file are somtimes corrupted making the entire file useless. Go to your Preference Settings and turn off: - Compress on save - Save viewport Thumbnal image - Save schematic view - Save File Properties To recover your latest backup go to your autoback-folder and look for Autoback3.max. That should be your last workable file. Some data may be lost but at least you saved most of it. Ofcourse this option only works if you have turned on Autosaving. It's a ###### to lose work this way, I had my share aswell. Good luck.

mordred 0
Strange thing happened to my bridge, if i leave it a 'plane' the character walks over it perfectly, but if i convert it to a mesh (because i wantr to move some parts in z-axis, making the bridge bend a little), the character stops when it reaches another 'part' of the mesh........ even if i dont move it on the z-axis, it seems that only a plane gives no problems according to walk over.....strange because my mapfloor is a mesh too and that doenst give any problems at all
deleyt 0
There shouldn't be any difference if you make your model into an editable mesh. I think something else is blocking you but it's hard to tell with this amount of information.
