the.ronin
ok i know everyone here has a beef with ubi and im like the lone ubi missionary. yes i agree it sucks but no i disagree that all games are rambo-esque kill-em-all counter strike types. in fact, ive recently been getting on a role with certain players in creating op-plans for a lot of the missions (elite, no ti no respawn). one particular mission, the castle, requires the fireteams to hold back and essentially cover the flanks and sensored entranced until the wave of tangos dissipate. all of us know the op-plan inside out and we make sure all new people to the room are brought up to speed. almost ALWAYS gauranteed to be one guy who decides he is gonna rambo it and break from the plan. ALWAYS 100% gauranteeed this guy runs straight up to the entrance, takes out maybe one tango, gets all pumped and then in turn gets pumped by lead from tangos to the left flank. when will they learn that cooperation is best -- that when the team operates as a unit, the product is FAR greater than the sum of its parts???? foolish padawans. ScornDrake
I have to agree with Ronin on this. I have seen my share of these Rambo Wannabe's and they are always trying to make a name for themselves and rack up a ton of kills on there own. They never listen to their team mates, never understand why they get killed off so fast. And most of all they never want to learn, just go in and shoot up the place and if the team gets wacked, oh freakin' well. I tend to personally any Rambo Wannabe's real fast, cause they tend to not only get themselves killed, but the team as well. If you are a Rambo Wannabe, then watch your six, cause my M4 has twenty fast little friends that can out run you, and leave you for dead real fast! These hold mostly true in GR as well as in Real Combat. Murphy’s Laws of Combat Soldiers and Armies 1. You are not Superman. 2. Professionals' are predictable, but the world is full of amateurs. 3. No combat ready unit has passed inspection. 4. No inspection ready unit has ever passed combat. 5. The side with the fanciest uniforms loses. 6. Murphy was a grunt. Planning 1. The important things are simple. 2. The simple things are very hard. 3. No plan survives the first contact intact. 4. Prefect plans aren't. Techniques 1. If it's stupid but works, it's not stupid. 2. When in doubt, empty the magazine. 3. Never share a foxhole with anyone braver than you. 4. If your attack is going really well, it's an ambush. 5. The enemy diversion you are ignoring is the main attack. 6. The easy way is always mined. 7. When you have secured an area, don't forget to tell the enemy. 8. Teamwork is essential. It gives the enemy other' to shoot at. 9. Make it too tough for the enemy to get in, and you can't get out. 10. The only terrain that is truly controlled is the terrain upon which you're standing. 11. The easy way generally gets you killed. 12. If you take more than your fair share of objectives, you will have more than your fair share objectives to take. 13. You can win without fighting, but it's a lot tougher to do. And the enemy may not cooperate. Edited February 12, 2003 by ScornDrake
SOTOMac
Heres one I actually said to an LT. back in the Day... "Sir... If I want a Promotion - I'll just salute You in the Field". Lets just say that I knew this LT. well In order to say that to Him and not have Him take it as anything more than a Joke... Once it was said and the Chuckles were over however, We all thought about it and then it wasn't so funny anymore. Heres one I follow SACROSANCTLY ; "NEVER share a Fox Hole with an Athiest" Regards,

Cobblers
I know I had one of those yesterday claiming he had DL GR off Kazza too. He couldn't understand why the update wouldn't work, so I told him to buy the original and that might help. @ Ronin - I know what you are saying regards UBI, there are some very good players on line, whenever I find these I always save them to my friends list, but you do find a larger amount of Rambo styled players than if you were to play on ASE. I must admit that team work, without the use of some sort of communication software can be quite difficult. So if I ever find myself doing a Rambo, that's be why, as it's easier running off and doing your own thing. Also playing as a team with some people is great, but others it can be a nightmare, there I am covering their ###### and when I decide to move I get slotted from their general direction!!?? Oh well back to the drawing board!
[Wx] Force
well if the communication was there ,, then there would be less rambo style playing ,,, I myself when online playing take on a mission perspective with an objective first ,,whatever the mission consists of ,,online playing his it's up's and down's ,,but I found a few good players out there that watch there team player and go for the goal instead of just shooting up the place ,The time limits on most games sorta (suxx) right in the middle of maybe the best conflict the timer ends the game and your looking at the stats ,,######,,hehe rambo's usually don't last long ,but it nice to know some folks will go out on limb to get the job finished,,you cover me and I'll cover you ! splaster
Well, since you have painted the bulleyes on yourself by claim you are a Rambo, All power to you. But I need to point out a few items of intrest: 1. without teamwork, you are on your own, unless you are playing with a sensor on, who know what is behind the next door. 2. Elite - need I say anything more! 3. Anyone can stage a photo. single player and god mode, I can make pretty pictures just like the one you have posted. 4. Lastly, if you play multiplayer and no respawn like some of the games, I have been in lately, you are not going to be a Rambo. If you want to play that way, go to unreal tournment, or quake. Let the sneak and peakers do the mision, with aid. Lastly, you play the game the way to want to, for anyone to tell you to change is just voicing an his own views. Swordfish
Sometimes the Wannabe Rambos come in handy, Just think of them as a diversion to make your way behind enemy lines. Or think of them as a human bullet catch or shield. I know some times they tend to get the team killed and often give away your positions. For the times they do that, simply bleed them quick and set a claymore on their body for the enemy to walk up and try to gloat on their kill! Boom! The Wannabe Rambo has now just become the bait! This might teach the Rambo Wannabes a lesson if not they will be used to a means to decide a victory or defeat, but it all depends on the teams view point! Then again worse case secnario, the whole team is made up of Rambo Wannabes. Then in that case if I were the enemy, dig in and wait for the easy kills to come! ArchAngeL143
Yanno, this topic made me laugh......time and time again I hear people complain about rambos. Guess what the rambos complain about? The people that dont move up without their wall of sensors. Sure completing a mission is fun, but sometimes running up and blasting as many as possible before you go down in a hail of gunfire is fun to. People play the game their own way, what is fun for them let them enjoy their 10 seconds of blasting then they are dead and you can complete the mission. ~NkOgNiTo~
The people that dont move up without their wall of sensors. yeah, i never understood the sensors on gr, if they get close enough they show up on the map most times anyway...i am not knocking those who use them cuz i know it adds a bit of strategy to the play...i would just rather carry nades.. People play the game their own way, what is fun for them let them enjoy their 10 seconds of blasting then they are dead and you can complete the mission. AMEN, let each play his own way, if ure afraid he will get u capped let him lead the way if he lives, GREAT...so do you, if dies...then you can go on and finish the mission the way you wan't ...part of running a team in the game is utilizing everyone's strong points, and if that is how they want to play then let them 'cuz that is how they are comfortable playing, and that is what benefits the team. IMO p.s. i am not a rambo, but i belive that tolerance will make it a lot more fun for us all. the.ronin
i should clarify, when i talked of rambo-ing above, i meant the stupid sort of, me me me me gogogogogogo type rambo. the one thats ALL about kills rambo and gets everyone killed rambo. now if i come across a dude thats all rambo but knows what he's doing, heck more power to him. ill just sit back and peck off guys - mission completed. however thats far and few between and as far as i've seen, notwithstadning nightmare's clear rambo-ness , most rambos last about 5 seconds on a elite no resp / no ti game. double amen. gogogogogogogogogogogo. ps - sensors are invaluable for ambushes or as an extra lookout post. |rsi| Zato
Interesting thread! As a recovering "Rambo" all I can say is: "Only fools rush in" I find it's a lot more fun when you can participate rather than watch a mission.
snakebite1967
Ive never used sensors and ive been guilty of playing rambo style a few times in the early days, probaly due to the fact i wa a diehard UT player, but now i get more satisfaction being a team mener in a small group that takes the win as a whole and personal kill scores are frowned upon. but as posted above we all have our own way to play the game and if it gets rid of the daily stress far be it for me to judge
hero2zer0
Well when i play MP i often find it easier to rush forward as the others keep checking the map and work so slow, u can surprise many e's by comming fast and hard while they are checking maps comms n' stuff...i think if it like this: no one is willing to advance so whats the damn point?! we are riflemans damnit start acting like one. how often u find guys saying "oh few more second and we had it"??? it seems that advancing is not a very popular strategy...most of the times i manage to get spawn kills cuz the enemy doesnt advance... ps spawn kils = spoils of war. dont cry about it if u dont like to move out when the order is given. WhiteKnight77
Well when i play MP i often find it easier to rush forward This is the Rambo syndrome in force. GR is a strategy game, not a CS or Quake clone where all you do is run and gun. Read what everyone else has to say. Running around is more likely to get you killed. Try that in a no spawn recon game and you will never beat the level. Creeping from bush to bush and shadow to shadow will keep you alive. hero2zer0
as i said many many times b4 i hate CS!! (my bro plays it). my style isnt even near CS, when i say i rush i meant that i wont stay in one spot too much hell thats all about being a rifleman. my game is to advance but not on all costs, i dont shoot every baddie i see around, i just let them pass and try to get the base with as much stealth as i can. did u try to play the public servers on UBI? all games have 10 mins limit with avrage 5 spawns. ofcourse i get killed many times but that is only bcuz of spanws, if there were none i would go down so quickly as i prefer to be on front line to give my team sniper(s) the room to operate... ps i hate CS. Zantar45
Yeah I mix-up my strategies, sometimes Im real slow ans precise, other times I go rambo. Im very lucky when I do go rambo that I dont get killed. I try to use both strategies as much as possible. In fact the other day, I saw a bunch of my team members getting killed so I layed down and threw frags into the group of enemies (they were focused on killing my team, and didnt know I was a few feet away from them) Then I got up, flanked them and went full rambo, I got 11 kills in less then a minute (they didnt have anyone covering them from afar-the sniper was on the battle front) I got extremely lucky that time. But most/almost all the time you go rambo, you get 1-3 kills and then are promtly dropped like a sack of EDIT - Please do not attempt to bypass the swear filter Paitence does pay off. unless they got a grenade launcher
the.ronin
all i can say is, if you are lucky enough, watch two people that know what they are doing using the buddy system in gr -- watching each other's six and leapfrogging each other. if you click on the map, you can see that they effectively have most if not all angles covered as one walks backwards and they switch off. its an amazing sight to see and, even under heavy fire, two cooperating can really make a huge difference.
