The_Slink 0
I just wondered if the ATI 9200 was a good gfx card. Also how is Direct X 9 on it? Thanks.
snakebite1967 0
if your a gamer then id say dont bother, it is very weak at dx9 and actualy very weak at dx8 i may be wrong but i believe its on par with a gf4 mx. minimum future proof ATI card u should buy is a 9600 pro if u intend to game with it and be happy with the results
Dannik 43
I'm using a new computer at the moment (which I built for the significant other's parents), and I included an Asus Radeon 9200SE card. It's a DirectX 8.1 native card, passively cooled, and remarkably decent considering how cheap it is. That being said, it is not a gamer's card. If 3d gaming is your main focus for a video card, keep walking. It's powerful enough to play just about anything out there, but don't expect great performance unless you drop the resolution and details down in more recent games. Basically, it's a hobbyist's card. Great for 2D and video playback, and cheap enough for someone who plays games sometimes, and doesn't want to sink a large amount of cash into a video card.
CR6 0
Also how is Direct X 9 on it? ATI has been criticized about misleading people with their naming of the Radeon 9000, 9100 (IGP), and 9200. These are all Direct X 8 chips, and are based on the Radeon 8500 architecture, but with some tweaks, a die shrink and upgraded to 8x AGP. So the Radeon 9200 cannot do the features implemented in DirectX 9. That being said, most DX9 games these days will still run on a DX7 or DX8 level card, but they just won't look as pretty. If you are a serious gamer, I would recommend a true DX9 card -- any Radeon 9500 and above, or GF FX 5600 and above. Do not get a GF FX 5200 as even though it does DX9, it runs very slow, and runs DX7 games even slower than a GF2 MX.
