something strange is going on with my pc, several times when i am working offline on my pc, it decides to connect to the internet without even asking me. it just starts connecting to the Internet.

Does anybody know why this happens? and how i can stop it?

How can you tell it is trying to connect to the Internet? Are you using ZoneAlarm or a dial-up connection?

There may be a program running in the background trying to reach the internet. If you're on a dial-up and viewing webpages offline, there are sometimes some scripts that try to access the internet.

Unfortunately, the most likely thing is that you may have a virus. Get a good quality virus scanning program and scan through your harddrive with the latest update.

i think i found the problem. i had 'autodial' enabled in WinXP. so i think it was some program trying to look for updates or something. i thing i saw when it tried to connect was the normal 'connecting to internet' box.

i am sure it isn't a virus because i keep my virusscanner up to date and ran it today without finding a virus.
