XP Limited Accounts COCKED UP!

Recommended Posts

I run 3 accounts on my PC 1 which is mine and admin and the other 2 which r limited the 2 which r limited run really slow and appear according to the task manager to always use 100% proccessor. This is cured by changing them to Admin however i really cannot trust the other users not 2 mess the system up so they have to remain limited. I have run Norton 2004 with newest updates and tried both AdAware 6 and Spy Hunter v1.1.29 both with latest updates and found nothing :wacko:

Please could people tell me possible causes and or solutions thanx

Looks like for some reason, a program is launched at startup for the limited accounts that is running in the background eating up CPU cycles.

The easiest thing to do is to hit Start -> Run -> type "msconfig' and hit enter. This will bring up the System Configuration Utility. Pick the Startup tab and let us know how many items are checked off in the Startup Item column.

For now, you can safely uncheck all of these items and reboot. (This may turn off Norton or any other things you actually want to run in the background, but you can turn them back on later.)

If your limited accounts are still slow despite all the startup items off, then something is being turned on from either the registry or the Startup folder in your Start menu.

If your limited accounts are working fine, then go back to the startup items and check them off one by one to see which one is the program hogging all your system resources.
