Syncopator 0
I'm in the middle of reading Alamein - War Without Hate...so this would be fun anyway. Looks a bit suspect, but I'm sure it will be worth a prod, if you're into the subject. Cheers for heads-up..
Dan 0
Hmm, sounds good. Nth Afirca was a good campaign, except when monty buggered up the Paratroop attck, that was bad. Only reason they won it cos they flooded the area with tanks, while the germans were running of the wiff of an oily wrag, cos Berlin needed all the fuel.
Recon 0
Are there any RTS games out now which are based around modern combat?
Syncopator 0
Only reason they won it cos they flooded the area with tanks, while the germans were running of the wiff of an oily wrag, cos Berlin needed all the fuel. The only reason the Allies stole back any ground from the Third Reich is down to Hitler's lunacy in his pre-emptive invasion of the Soviet Union. The Wehrmacht literally bled to death on the steppes of Western Russia, Ukraine and Belurussia...and were finally reduced to a shadow at the gates of their own capital. If it wasn't for this momentous drain on fuel, manpower, armour and ammunition - not to mention Nationalist spirit - Africa and the Western Front would have probably been doomed expiditions for the Allies. Thank God evil men are often frought with the weakness of self-indulged invincibility. I'd like to see an RTS that covers the Ostfront...though will be checking this Afrikacorp game out for sure. Dick Splash 23
This months PC Gamer (US) gives it a 74%. Basically it's saying don't expect an RTS sim, but there's nice animation and it has a fun balance between realism and carnage. Looks a little like WWII Frontline Command too. magnumkp 0
Played the demo a month or so back, entertaining enough, but not really my sort of game. Think Command and Conqueror with real weapons.
The_Slink 0
Did anyone play the Close Combat series? That had some Eastern Front missions.
Dick Splash 23
Did anyone play the Close Combat series? That had some Eastern Front missions. Yes .......but I've not played it in a while. I got the 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the series. I preffered the 2nd 'A Bridge Too Far' because it was my first CC experience. The other two looked better but just didn't have the flavoUr. firefly2442 0
I agree. A bridge too far was the best one. The others were ok. Lots of strategy in placing your guys. Plus battlefield damage and stuff. Really cool game.

Ahh.. but what about Hitler having to save Mousolini's ass in Greece?
Dick Splash 23
I know this is out now, but seeing it on G4TV (US) yesterday, prompted me to post some more info on the game. Anyone else own/played it yet? Variety of Units: More than 70 different units are available, each with its own complementary characteristics, including eight specialized soldiers (rifleman, scout, machine gunner, medic, sapper, flamethrower, sniper, grenade launcher) and seven categories of vehicles (recon, tank, anti-tank artillery, anti-air artillery, transport, air support) unite to form the player's armies. Cutting Edge 3D Technology: Provides the game with natural looking desert terrain, beautiful lighting and shadow effects, realistic unit animations and movement, and breathtaking special effects. Enhanced Combat Realism: Every vehicle and building can be captured; front, side and rear armor are taken into account; only fully-crewed vehicles are 100% operational. In addition, every vehicle can acquire up to three levels of experience upon successfully completing a mission. Pause feature allows players to think over their tactics at anytime and to schedule up to three orders per unit. Deep Single Player Experience: Desert Rats vs. Africa Korps presents an unparalleled single player experience which includes a management phase at the beginning of each mission to prepare for battle. The story-driven campaign spans 20 missions ranging from recon operations to large-scale battles for desert fortresses. Multiplayer Gaming: Five different multiplayer modes including death match and capture the flag are available via Gamespy or LAN for up to four players. DS

Crimson 0
I played it. The only thing I didnt like about it was you cant build up your base, it's already built for you. It's decent, a lot better than those Mech games and AC. Edited June 24, 2004 by Crimson
Dick Splash 23
I see what you're saying Crims', but for me that'd be more like C&C etc. It's ome quirky features and it's another for me shoping list Keep a look out for Codemasters WWII RTS, it looked gorgeous at E3.
