Help on basics, Nooby

Recommended Posts

:wall: Been busy with max all day, and some stuff is still bothering me.

1) When igor is open and i load my *.env file, my map from 3dsmax loads....

but on the top window i still see the env (overview) map of caves.

(i used env from caves-map)............. instead of my 3dsmax overview.....

the textured map is there in igor, the top view aint....

2) when i go into GR it crashes when the mission loads (to desktop)......

3) Is there any way to switch between objects in Max??? i cant seem to select my former anymore.....

PS: 1 got a tip for all your noobs(like me) DONT use a rectangle or so

as a ground for GR it WONT texture !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! use squad mesh instead

here are some files that might help u solve my problem:

1. The picture you see as a "top view" in IGOR is a command map.rsb, in your case the Caves map's command map. In the .env file there is an option as to which .rsb to load here. You will need to make one for your new map and then assign it here.

2. Theres hundreds of things that could cause your map to crash in game. We'll need some more specifics or to look at your files to be able to help. If i get a chance Ill try to take a look. Is that a max v5 file?

3. Switch between objects in max? Im not sure what you mean by that, try selecting them maybe? with the mouse?

Theres no problem using a rectangle as a ground or object in your map, you just need to apply a normal to it. It needs some faces in order to apply texture to it. Try putting paint on the walls of your house when all you have up is the frame. ;)

thx fellas,

ill be asking a lot more so keep your eyes open :rocky:

It seems odd to me that the .sht file would cause it to crash at this point. Normally that is the problem people have though. I was assuming that this was your first export and that you hadnt changed the geometry. If there were no geometry or tagging changes between this export and the prior one the .sht file would not cause a crash. The .sht file contains collision data, on plenty of occasions I have relit new maps and done minor things like reassigning textures and used the same .sht file without a crash. You should always of course delete the .sht file when you do a new export, otherwise it isnt necessary.

Some coding genius should modify or add a plugin to delete that little annoyance immediately after export. That would be a small but wonderful tool. Seems like its easy to forget that little sht.

U have that option in Javaman's Smart Tools v2
