Bob The Nailer 0
My bud usually hosted games but recently, I've been unable to see his IP game status via the multiplayer internet game tab. He hasn't changed any port forwarding settings and his IP address is correct. I can ping his IP address and get a response, but for some reason GR can't see his machine. He tried resetting his router, but that didn't seem to work either. The only thing that we can point to is that his wife rearranged his office while he was out of town, but she connected everything back correctly, and he has no problems with his network/router/firewall. He's able to join other online games with no problem as well. HELP!!!
WhiteKnight77 1
Have you tried to join his game even though you can't see it? If you can ping his PC and get a reply, you should have no problem joining his game.
Dannik 43
For some reason, I'm thinking his port forwarding was affected by the rearrangement... possibly it was off/unplugged long enough for it to 'forget' the rules.
finster 0
Maybe he received a new IP address when his router was disconnected/connected again. Is his IP dynamic?
Sgt Rock 0
I checked the port forwarding settings, and they're still set and correct. I also checked my IP. It's static, not dynamic, so it shouldn't have changed. Bob tried to join, but with no luck. Sgt. Rock (I'm the buddy)
WhiteKnight77 1
Have you tried to reapply the forwarding settings even though they are correct? Have you gone into the properties of the NIC that connects to the router and reapplied the properties for it in regards to TCP/IP protocol for it? Try that if you haven't then restart your PC and see what happens.
ColBlackHawk 0
OK... GR uses TCP port 2346...unless the server has changed it. Try downloading QSTAT and using it to see if you can talk to the status port which is +2 or 2348. GR uses 2347 to broadcast its existance FYI. I went to look for the link and it appears they are down! if you need this app I can send you the versions I have. I have W32 and Linux and source. QStats Web Page If you can use QSTAT and see the replay from the server, your network is working ok. Which seems to be the case if you are pinging. Make sure the server owner has opened portforwarding from his firewall to the server's IP...for port 2346-2348 If another computer on his 10. or 192.168. network is responding to those ports then the NAT will be all messed up. AND ACTUALLY!!! He should have all ICMP (PING) type protocols turned off!!! they can be used as denial of service attacks. Last but not at all least....run "netstat -a" from a command prompt. Then look for port 2346 connections. ON BOTH Machines. His server should be listening on that port. TCP computer1:2346 computer1:0 LISTENING
Sgt Rock 0
The Qstat link site seems to be down, and I can't locate a copy online for Win32. If you can send it to me at pgrebus@oberlin.net, I'd appreciate it.
Sgt Rock 0
I was pondering how rearranging some furniture could screw up my ability to host a game and it struck me - my wife's laptop had "grabbed" the IP address with the port forwarding settings even though the desktop uses a cable to attach to a specific port on the router. She was having some problems getting on line on the laptop until I released the ipconfig on her machine, and that led me down the correct path. Doh!
