snakebite1967
uninstal the cat driver and instal the cat 4,2's or the omega 4.2s and give that a shot, u can also go into your opengl tab in the driver settings and enable 24 bit z buffer and enable triple buffering, thats under opengl in compatibility mode. MOHAA runs great on my 9800 pro under those settings
supasniper
try updating directx from 9a to 9b, from what i've read that isa more stable version
Specter
With ME, if it can be helped, you should go back to directx8.1. dx9.x was written pretty specifically for XP, and doesn't really run as good as it's supposed to in Win9x-ME. NurFACE
You may want to unistall your video card driver. I found this link that has an application to unistall direct x. http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/14/4/14-4-40.shtml

ghost gamer
I think I may have found an issue...when I run dxdiag, under dx features, AGP texture acceleration is not enabled....nor can it be, meaning I don't have the option to simply hit enable..... ....hmmmmm... snakebite1967
im guessing that u didnt format when u built this new pc ? if not you are probaly missing the chipset drivers or have a corruption left over from your old mobo drivers
ghost gamer
....don't recall formatting it....remembered to remove the old video and sound card drivers, but not the drivers for the old motherboard....yeah, thats kinda important ....can I simply uninstall the old MB drivers and then reinstall the drivers for the new MB? snakebite1967
u can try, what was the chipset of your old mobo ?, i still prefer a fresh format with a new setup there is just too many variables that can cause issues
ghost gamer
it was a VIA KL133 chipset / board made by Trigem....HP XT 933.....
snakebite1967
u can try searching your hd for via drivers then, but to be totaly honest the best results youl see are with a fresh format and if u can get rid of that virus that is ME
ghost gamer
thanks.....just one final question..since the K8V Deluxe board is based on a VIA chip, will I be able to tell the drivers apart?
snakebite1967
if iw as u id delete anything via then start fresh with the 4.51 driver if u still have issues then im afraid a format is needed, id also read thru an asus forum for a decent bios setup guide just to make sure your getting the most out of it
ghost gamer
thanks...I appreciate your help...I'll let you know how it goes.....
Specter
The best thing to do here is Fdisk, Format, and reload. Especially with ME or any of the Win9.x systems. If you try to patch it together, you are asking for trouble. On the Directx question, no you can't.
ghost gamer
well, I think the problem of no AGP texture acceleration is fixed. I reinstalled the MB drivers. I then discovered that the 9800 XT has a "utility" called smart cart or something like that. At the top are options for the PCI, but at the bottom are functions for the AGP slot. One was for read and one was for write, options being on or off. Of course both selections for AGP were set to off. I switched them to on and the next dxdiag I ran, AGP texture acceleration was enabled. Check this out. Before I did any of the above, I was making some adjustments in the 9800xt's control panel under open gl and 3d. I found that the antialasing option was the one giving me trouble with MOHAA running but not displaying. As soon as I unchecked "application preference" for it(antialasing), MOHAA would run but not display. All the other options on open gl and 3d tabs were set to high and anatropic filtering was set at a moderate level. I checked the cats that came with the 9800xt. They are like version 7.93 and the most current is 7.98. I left the older driver in place for now until I see if any more issues arise. I downloaded dx 9.0b and was going to install it. It started but said it needed to conect to the internet? Why? Just as well. I'll run 9.0a and the older cats and see what bugs show up. I don't believe in installing new stuff unless one is doing so in an attempt to address an issue. Unless its new game files , of course! snakebite1967
glad u got it sorted and yes ati drivers without the control panel are useless and as smartgart controls the agp x and also fastwrites its always good to isntall them
ghost gamer
...yep...it ain't a bad idea....any thought on how I can monitor the 9800xt's temp/fan speed?.....I looked through manual........thanks.....
snakebite1967
if u r running an xt card then u need the latest drivers the older cats IE 3.7 to 3.9 werent designed for the xt range the 3.10 to 4.2's should have the temp gauge for the xt range
