ghost gamer 0
I got my new system together and running with hardly any trouble. Managing the wires was a pain. I have two questions. First, I notice that dxdiag shows my 9800XT at only 255 mb of memory and system memory only shows 1022 mb...when they should be 256 and 1024 respectively....why doesn't the system recognize all the video and system memory?....is it kinda like the hard drice capacity deal where you may have an 80 gig drive but it only truly has a capacity of 76 gig?....just wondering...secondly, can anyone advise me on some tweaking?.....I don't want to do any overclocking....any suggestions would be appreciated...I set all the cpu/memory settings to auto/default....I ain't gonna mess with any of that till I know what I am doing..... NYR_32 6
The resaon the hard drive only registers as 76 GB's is becuase of the way Windows' file system works....you "lose" a bit of space...the memory thing is no biggy as well....just curious....why'd you go with ME? Specter 0
Actually, the reason HDD's only register less than their advertised capacity is that the heads need what is known as "Parking space"' so that they don't park on data space. When the heads park, they physically contact the drive. So part of the drive is not even formatted for this purpose. As for tweaking, if it is soley a gaming machine, get with Snakebite. And just remember that there are no apps out yet that use a 64 bit processor, so don't expect any dramatic performance gains from that, especially with Windows ME. If you can, get the 64 bit version of XP. If you can find it.

snakebite1967 0
heres a good forum for u its an asus specific one that will answer many of your questions for setting that mobo up, the rest of the forum will help u with many other tweak questions u may have. http://forums.amdmb.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=8 btw nice system, also go to www.pcpitstop.com run a full system scan post your results in the forum there and you will also get some good suggestions. ps upgrading to xp would also be a good finishing touch to an uber system like that
ghost gamer 0
cool...thanks everyone....Windows ME has never given me any trouble....except that I notice that when I run msconfig and uncheck the bottom three items in the selective startup, my system will register system resources 99% free...then I'll play a game or something and shut that application down and check the resources...and it'll be like 90% free...so what is hogging up the 9% when nothing is running?...yeah..I need to consider XP....that'll be awhile....as I am now officially poor..... I ran 3DMark03 and got a score of like 5450 I think it was....not sure what is good or bad for a setup like mine as I am new to the benchmarking thing, but I got the feeling it was on the low side , thats what prompted me to ask you guys about tweaking....the machine runs awesome despite whatever the benchmark says.....Raven Shield, RTCW, Soldier of Fortune II,NOLF2, Medal of Honor, Max Payne and of course GR all run like insanely fast and smooth with all details set to max ..... one last question, what would be a normal operating temperature range for this cpu?......thanks...... Dannik 43
If you can, get the 64 bit version of XP. If you can find it. Download XP 64 bit for free from Microsoft.
