psyops 0
Hi all, complete newbie and completely amazed with Ghost Recon. I have a mac with ghost recon on it and my friends back home have it on PC, with the new 1.4 patch, can We see each other using multiplayer options? Can the mac see the PC's IP address and join in, or if the other person has a router, does that interfere with join the game? Sorry if this is a dumm question. Cheers, Psyops
STU_Snake 0
Hate to reccomend UBI, but you could probably connect there, not a guarentee, never tried to cross like that
WhiteKnight77 1
Yes Mac users can connect via direct IP to a PC user. Everyone needs to be patched to 1.4 and have the same mission packs installed. If the PC player is hosting and behind a router, he needs to give you his external IP and have his router properly set to allow traffic through for you to join. psyops 0
Does windows XP have a built in firewall? If so How do I turn it off. I still cannot connect to his server, and we have the same Mission mods etc... Cheers
Brass 0
phy if you are not hosting you would not have to worry about the firewall. in answer though rightclick on network neiborhood go to properties. right click on local are connection/ (lan card) go to properties. then go to advanced tab. psyops 0
OK guys, We have tried everything, well maybe not all, but here is what we have done so far. We disconnected his router and plugged the Cable modem straight into the computer, then tried it and nothing happened. Went to myip.com and got his ip address, tried that and nothing happened. When he went to create a game his ip was different from what myip.com posted, so maybe that was one problem. we are still not sure if windows Xp has a built in firewall. so that may be another problem. Am I missing something? I know someone will come through for me, Any help appreciated, cheers psyops
ROCO*AFZ* 0
For windows xp, go start, control panel network connections right click the local area connection, left click properties, click advanced tab at the top, uncheck the firewall if you want to disable it. If you have a router you must forward ports 2346-2348 to the local ip of the machine hosting it. For that you may need to consult your manual for the router. Sometimes also Isp, have ports block so you don't host on a residential connection but not usually the gaming ports.
Brass 0
ok Im not sure what you mean that myip.com gave you a diffrent address than what gr did. unless your gr addy was a 192.168.x.x number in which case you were not really connected to the internet and what you got at myip.com was a saved page in laymans terms. I think we need a bit more info such as who is hosting (the pc or the mac) are yall connected via lan (same home) or wan (via internet). is there firewall software running? (for intance yes xp has a firewall see my post earlier, zone alarm, black ice ect ect) once that is done see if you can ping him. (I dont know macs so I have no Idea how to ping on a mac but www.tracert.com has a ping function that works great if you have to use something) let us know (white knight and soto are very knowledgeable about networks) and plus they spell better than I do
psyops 0
Hi, When we went to myip.com, it gave us a ip like 66.1.etc, but when we went to GR and my freind creates the game his ip says 169.25.etc...so they dont match up. I will tell him about how to turn off the firewall for his xp machine. I use a mac and heres whats funny or wierd, when I create the game, and I give him my ip, everything is ok he can see me and join my games, but when he goews to create a game, and gives me his ip, nothing happens or I time out. So it must be on his side. He also has way more mods than me (I'm still new at this) So could that be an issue? Thanks for all the support! This is a great forum.Cheers Psyops
psyops 0
One other question, How do I play with my friends on UBI when I am on a Mac? We only have game ranger. Cant they just give me the servers address?
Brass 0
how many network cards does your friend have 169.25. x.x sounds like a default microsoft address that gets stuck in there when there is nothing connected. the best way to know if thats the case is to go start run cmd enter ipconfig look for gateway if there is none his ip of 169.25.x.x is not an address just a default stuck in there. WhiteKnight77 1
The 66.XXX.XXX.XXX IP is the external IP (that you got from www.myip.com) that everyone will join when you host. The 192.168.XXX.XXX IP is your computer's internal IP. That is what happens when you use a router. You need to forward the ports in the router to the 192.168.XXX.XXX IP. A detailed way to forward the ports (along with how to find your IPs) to the right computers can be found in the Help needed for online play, Firewall Issue? thread I answered to last night.
