Created in 1942, the Dennison was only issued to British Airborne units and the Parachute Regiment. Last used in the early 70's inc. 'Bloody Sunday', it was replaced by DPM [Disruptive Pattern Material] camouflage. Paras liked to look different from other regiments and they took great pride in their smocks and of course their 'cherry' berets. Most regiments at the time wore plain cotton olive green jackets and trousers.

The introduction of DPM perhaps has made the Paras less conspicuous, apart from of course their beret and their helmet. However, the latter looks very much like the standard issue helmet from a distance. They still have para smocks, though not the Dennison, in DPM and based on the same design, and retain the 'classic' knitted wool cuffs.
