Collector*AFZ* 0
Hey all, Twice this week I have been in the middle of a game and my system hangs up. Then after a minute or so, it goes back to the desktop with a message that a device has failed. I checked the event viewer and the error it shows says that my video card got stuck in an infinite loop and that it could be due to 1. my device is failing, or 2. that the driver is screwing up. I have an (don't trash me) HP pavilion 7935 running HP home, 1.3 GHtz, 256 RAM, and the video card is an S3 ProSavage 8A26 (KM133). The driver information says that it is a 2001 version, so I think it might be the drivers, but I can't tell which one is the right driver for the card I have. Any ideas? the_collector
Dannik 43
Ah, the infamous infinite loop. In my experience it is effectively allways an indicator that your video card is about to give up the blue smoke.
snakebite1967 0
as Dannik said it could be a last gasp of a video card, but ive seen this same issue in some games IE ut2003 and its a combination of via drivers and video card drivers. now i have no idea if your running a via chipset in that pc or not, but if you can include your full system specs and the make and model of your mobo then we can try and help. is this an agp or pci card, when was the last time u updated any drivers ssytem and hardware wise ? Dannik 43
His specs. No AGP slot, and the video chip is onboard. It is a VIA KL 133 chipset motherboard as well, so I hope that it is a Via issue, as there may be a 4-in-1 update available. EDIT: Here is a direct link to the latest video drivers for that particular S3 chip, under XP. As per usual, use at your own risk, although these are the latest official drivers to the best of my ability to find. Edited February 1, 2004 by Dannik
Dannik 43
Additionally, here's the link to the Via 4-in-1 driver page for updating the base motherboard drivers for your system. Same disclaimer as above.
snakebite1967 0
ahh ok wasnt sure if it was a savage card or not, if the latest via hyperion drivers dont fix it there is a via patch work around for this issue tho im not sure if its meant for onboard video or an add in card
Collector*AFZ* 0
Thanks for the input. I have updated the drivers for the card and so far so good. Of course, last night my CD Rom blows up and I had to go buy a new one of those and install it tonight to be able to play...when it rains it pours.. the_collector
WhiteKnight77 1
I had that happen one night, I had to run to Wal-Mart just to get a CD-ROM to be able to play/host an RS game back in 2001. I was really freaking out that night.
