i think thats what he meant. He knows the L85A1 w/gl wasnt in GR. He's saying the standard L85A1 was, and is looking for a modded one with the grenade launcher. (Its confusing because he put a comma in the wrong spot). But I dont know which mod has it either.

I think the L85A1 w/GL has been done in some mods.

As a point of accuracy the SA80 variant fitted with the UGL (note, not an M203) is an L85A2 -- the rebuilt L85A1. Both L85A2 and L85A2/UGL were first fielded in Afghanistan.

I'm only guessing here, but the whole front part of the gun looks awfully like a H&K design...

I know for a fact that after numerous flaw reports on SA80A1, British army took it to H&K UK to fix it. The result was SA80A2..aparently, it's much more reliable, no more reports of bolts breaking or clips falling out, but SF still complained about the wep being too loud when being chambered and locked/unlocked. Apparently a loud "click" of a weapon being unlocked or chambered can give your position away and alert the enemy in those stealthy SF operations...

I think there was a rumour about British MoD thinking of replacing the weapon with G36 in year 2008.

That whole front part of the gun is acctually the mounting system for the AG36 grenade launcher, take a look at pics of a G36 with the AG36 mounted and you can tell its virtually the same forearm. And I think the designations are L85A1 and L85A2 not SA80 and SA80A2, that's atleast the army designation of the rifle

The plan is to replace L85/86 as part of FIST, the UK's future soldier programme, but the intended replacement is the F2000 IW/LSW, basically the same weapon with an electronic sighting system (and unconnected with the FN F2000).

See http://www.thalesgroup-optronics.com/pdf/F...%20brochure.pdf or http://www.sistemasdearmas.hpg.ig.com.br/s...of/soffist.html (in Portuguese, but good photographic coverage of the trials weapons). Despite the language difficulties the Brazilian site is the best I've found for open source summaries of the various future soldier programmes.

  • 2 weeks later...
Coming in the Op. Stabilise mod. Should be out soon.

It's out! The link is posted in Op.Stab. tread...

It looks odd in some way..like the M203 wasn't really meant to be for the STEYR

I moddeled it to look exactly like the real thing....if you scroll trough Op. Stab. tread, you'll find plenty of links (posted by Gordo_Viper) to pics of Aussie troops...you can see the real thing there.
