Dedicated server & Player Session

Recommended Posts

Ok guys, you've all been great answering my noob questions, so here's another one.

Is it possible to run a Dedicated game and play on the same PC/Server?

This is in a LAN enviroment with 12-20 players, 100mb/s switch - the server is 2.8gig with 1gig Ram, 9800XT vid card.

I read the spiel about setting up two different dedicated sessions on the one box, and wondered if the same principle can apply for a ded/server AND Player game?

Has anyone tried this and what has been your expereince?

Yes it is but here is the problem. when you shut off gr the server goes off and everyone is kicked. peeps don't usually like that. Now if you stay in then they have a guy on there team that is afk all the time. That becomes annoying also and you would have to have an auto timer set in gr to keep the game running. I would suggest a seperate pc. gamers like dedicated servers and look for them more. You can connect locally to your game server through the lan setting and everyone else through your switch.

Oops didn't read that right. In a Lan environment not a problem as long as your playing the whole day so that the others don't get the above annoyances.

Thanks again.

Yes this is a LAN only enviroment, and hey! of course I'll be playing all day.... what else is there to do but GR :D

Thanks again for your help, I tested the ded server and a game session on one box, and connected up three other PC's to the game. No lag and lots of frag.
