Crimson 0
Well, I started fiddling around in my BIOS, looking to OC my processor. I found the CPU Multiplyer frequencies, and they go all the way up to 250. At 200, my 2500+ would be running at the same speed as a 3200+, but the A7N8X doesn't support a CPU that fast. So, a frequency of a stock 166 runs at the stock speed of 2500+, and 200 runs at 3200+. How can I tell what frequency will bump my CPU up around 2800+? Hopefully this made sense to someone. Crimson 0
Thanks snake. I'm up to 1.93Ghz, and have been running prime95 for about 45 minutes, with the temps stabilizing at 52C. I'm not going to push it too much.
snakebite1967 0
sweet glad it was a help, if your temps go any higher u could invest in some arctic silver 3 or 5 and do a nice lap on your hsf and drop a few degrees and of course add a few more case fans

Chef-Scott 0
Well, I started fiddling around in my BIOS, looking to OC my processor. I found the CPU Multiplyer frequencies, and they go all the way up to 250. At 200, my 2500+ would be running at the same speed as a 3200+, but the A7N8X doesn't support a CPU that fast. So, a frequency of a stock 166 runs at the stock speed of 2500+, and 200 runs at 3200+. How can I tell what frequency will bump my CPU up around 2800+? Hopefully this made sense to someone. What you want to do is go to the site mentioned above and read. Great site filled with all sorts of answers and they even have a Asus specific forum to boot! Also if the BIOS on that board allows it try changing the multiplier as well as the FSB frequency. On my GigaByte GA-7N400 Pro I am using the following settings: 10.5 FSB Multiplier, 200 for the FSB at 1.675 volts. I also set the memory timings to Aggressive. This turns my XP 2500 Barton into a XP 3000! Not too shabby for an $85 (US) CPU huh?
snakebite1967 0
that forum is my bible full of great info and many ideas
Crimson 0
Transfered my mobo and the like into my new Thermaltake case. I'm overclocked to the settings of a 3200+. (Multiplier at 11 and FSB to 187.) Temps dropped to 42C, and thats without the Arctic Silver 5 and Vantec AeroFlow HS/F, which will be installed tomorrow. PS - In my old case, I was getting 42C at stock speeds, lol.
