jjm3036 0
I went from Win98SE to Win2k. Installed GR and expansion packs and got all the updates for the game (as well as Windows). When I'm in game walking or running only. I get this loud kinda footstep/clicking/crackle sound. All other aspects of GR work perfectly. I have tried numerous sound adjustments within GR and haven't had any luck. thanks in advance for any assistance.
Dannik 43
By chance are you using an onboard sound chipset? EDIT: If you are using onboard sound, or an older audio card, a driver update may help. This issue is typical for "dusty" hardware, and other than new drivers from the manufacturer, the only fix tends to be new sound hardware. jjm3036 0
I am using a using a older soundcard that is built into/onto the computer. I went to do a drive update, but it said I have the most current version. Any other suggestions?
ROCO*AFZ* 0
sounds like a via. check your chipset. get the 4 in one drivers and the sound drivers here.... http://www.viaarena.com For the sound though you will have to pop your case open and find the audio chip on the mainboard so you match the right one. Other option is get an offboard sound solution. My audigy xgamer works great and guaranteed not to reduce framerate. only around 80.00 for them also. Never go by the windows update on drivers. They have to be certified and alot of manufacturers don't get there newest ones certified, meaning the ones on the update site are far ourdated compared to at the manufacturer's site. WhiteKnight77 1
For the time being, you can open up DxDiag and turn hardware acceleration down (move the slider to the left) to help alleviate the popping noises.
