With the size of the GR maps, would PC's be able to run a unreal map that size? The largest RvS map is 1/3 size of the average GR map. (Just my estamation, I may be wrong). But I will be at WallMart waiting to buy the first one on the self...lol.

I dont think that the Unreal engine can do GR I agree that it looks great, but I think the scale of the game is just too big. The rumblings I have heard about Far Cry .. the maps and things are huge .. maybe thats an option .. I think we just all have to be patient and wait.

They need to use whatever engine Soldner uses...heh heh...the maps in that game are going to be extremely large!...

I wouldn't mind a GR built on the Unreal engine...there is a SAS mod out there that looks pretty good...

I REALLY hope they can make HUGE maps for GR2. It would make insertion so much more realistic. Right now you practically fly the helo right over the enemies' heads. I also hope that they make the outer edges of the maps usable for GR modders. Some of you may not know, but a few GR stock (original) maps allow modders to place objects farther out than the player can reach from the inside of the map. Just take a look at my Disavowed mission. I had the players insert from a farther point than they could normally go to on that map....

Yeah I would love some HUGE maps, it gives you more ways to attack the enemys (or have them attack you!) and makes the missions last longer. Right now I spend about 45 to an hour on GR missions in SP, I would love to see a killer 2 hour mission in co-op or something. IMO. ;)

Tribes: Vengeance is using the Unreal engine, and the maps are absolutely huge and beautiful. So there's no doubt that it can handle large outdoor areas.

If they use the Crytek engine, they better do some serious overhauling, becaus I am NOT playing a tactical military shooter in a bright, colorful, fruity world.

the 'new' raven shield engine is the unreal engine and if they use that i know a fair few people who won't buy the game (including me)

Why?

I myself well have too pass on the GR2 engin being Unreal engine!

Theres so many more better engines too pick like Cry Tek and solderns

and just for GR2 too even have a chance they going too have a very high level of par too reach when it comes too GR2 too even get close too Far Cry and Soldern! and i mean GR2 has a Very high level of par too get close and Unreal engin dont even come close!

Im a beta tester for Far Cry and OMG so far so good! GR2 is a Must mod of this game!

I just hope that if they got jungle terrain in GR2, they put proper jungle terrain in. Not like Island Thunder poor excuse for jungle terrain. I mean, Island Thunder, set in the jungle....where's the trees and the overgrowth etc that we see in the intro movie?

At least Vietcong has REAL jungle terrain maps. Loadsa tall trees overhead etc. Infact, Vietcong has some of the best accurate jungle terrain I've ever seen.

The reason the terrain in IT isn't like the intro movie is because the games Minimum requirements are fairly low do to the fact that the game is over 2 years old...Vietcong is less than one year old...no way can you compare the two things...I'd like to see how well IT would have sold if they made it super laggy for lower e-nd system owners....

IIRC, Splinter Cell has some huge maps and that uses the Unreal Engine.

Anyways, RvS uses the Unreal engine ane everyone complains about it (and they complain about Unreal Tourney 2003 etc). Splinter Cell uses the Unreal engine yet no-one complains about it.....hmmm.....

I just hope they make some elements of it like H&D2.... i.e being able to choose uniforms/ headwear for your soldiers and being able to select backpacks, compasses, wirecutters etc for your soldier (also like in H&D2)

Would be nice if you could choose to select a ghillie suit for your sniper too.

SC has varied size maps, but don't reach the size of GR maps that I can tell.

RvS has been patched something like 10 times, is there any wonder why there are complaints, it does not work right at all (and to top it off, has a porn link in it).

I can't comment on how UT is as I do not own it, much less played it, or talked to anyone else who has played it.

I agree, we should be able to customize the kits we use in game similar to RS.

America's Army uses Unreal and that looks okay to me. I've not heard many complain about the graphics in AA, but a lot of people fear some gameplay decisions such as jumpig making their way into GR2. In this case it doesn't matter which engine the developers use, but what they do with it, what they allow players to do in the world etc. Personally I'm with Xian on the Soldner thing. I could do that.

You think splinter cell has huge maps ? ? ?

Love the game but the size of the maps are very small too a GR sized map and if i go farther i believe they are even smaller than must RvS maps!

Anyways its not just grapics we all should be looking at its what the engine has too offer the must of! and unreal engine dont offer us nothing but just looks and very bad game play!

Need something with looks and game play like Cry tek or soldern that has the looks and so much more with realimze and chooses with kits & uniforms and the MUST import of ALL MODS !

I myself have seen and played Far Cry and from what i see you guys going too kick yourself in the Butt for even thinking the unreal engine!

GR2 is going too need a big eninge too compete with the new games coming out! and from what i seen of soldern even Far Cry has a run for its money, but for Unreal engine is going too meet the trash from the way i see it, it should of never been used with RvS ether!

For the rest of you that havent seen the new engines yet you just better seat and wait before you start backing up the unreal engine guys becuase you missing out bad!

Until than Down load the Demo here Far Cry

Probably GR2 is going to be based on the "new" Raven Shield engine... which has great graphics and real human movements but its so hard to play that it makes it sometimes a little frustrating!

I play raven sheild a bit, only thing that annoys me is in how the bodies react to being shot, I once shot a guy all the way down some stairs with one DE .50 cal round to the chest, was almost pont blank

Yeah I dont care that much for graphics anymore either ... they have reached a point that is all pretty good to me I am more concerned with gameplay.

Raven Shield is a wonderfull LOOKING game.. graphics in it are truly awsome. It plays like a warped violin in the hands of a two year old though.

I would take a lil less in the world of graphics if the game played good. You know i just watched a game be released with basicly no bugs .. there is some community outcry about a feature or two but bugs... I haven't see one yet.

That more than anything is what I want to see from Ubi and GR@ a bug free game or as nearly as they can make it so.

The good thing is that Red storm and Ubi are diffrenent companys(I know Ubis the parent Co.) . It stands to reason that the engine could be something we have no idea about. They have been very closed mouth about this and they may have a surprise in the works.

One thing that we MUST have in GR2 is a very realistic iron-sights view....rather like this:

Enfield Mk4

ironsight-enfieldmk4.jpg

M1 Garand

ironsight-m1garand.jpg

M1 Carbine

ironsight-m1carbine.jpg

BAR

ironsight-bar.jpg

Obviously, that's WW2 weapons in those pics and they won't have WW2 weapons in GR2 but you get the idea. So, I want 'em to use an engine that will be able to give us an iron sights view.

*Note: pics resized from 1024x768 to 640x480 for this post. I have the full 1024x768 pics uploaded too if ya wanna see 'em....

Hehe, I just noticed, I almost ran out of ammo with the Garand....3 shots left....

Vietcong is an amzing game, but in Vietcong, they only aim using the front sight, NOT both of the sights. Therefore, their shot would go above where the are aiming with the front sight. So aim forthe head with just the front sight in reality, and you shot would completely miss the enemy's head.

However, I was speaking to an actual Vietnam veterant the other day. He was a US machine gunner. He said, in 'Nam, the found themselves just using the front sight more often than not.

4 patches have been released for Vietcong and they STILL haven't put the front sight on the M60!!
