Crimson 0
Long story short, a virus got my computer good. I've already reinstalled Windows, (as you can see ) and I have a question. Like last time, I have made three partitions. (C, D, E) C gets formatted when you installed Windows, but the others dont. What does the quick format do compared to formating the regular, slow way? (As I sit and watch the green progress bar for D.)
Super-Bob 0
Quick format rewrites the MFT for that partition, all the data remains but it is essentially unreadable and therefore "gone." It will then be written over as needed for new data. It can be recovered later if needed. Regular format completely erases everything on the partition, thats why it takes so long. Crimson 0
Lets say it's a completely blank partition. Quick formatting would be the way to go, right?
Super-Bob 0
I always do it, blank or not.
Crimson 0
Thanks for the help SB. I've got everything up and running except the damn printer. Gotta love USB.
