WytchDokta 6
From Gamerfeed.com: The lawsuit filed by Haitian civil rights groups is being moved to federal court... Attorneys for Rockstar Games have opted to move a case brought against them by Haitian civil rights groups to federal court. The suit, which was originally filed December 23rd in state circuit court in Palm Beach County, Florida, asks for more than $15,000 in damages and requests that the game be taken off store shelves. A hearing date has not yet been determined. By now, surely you've all heard about the controversy surrounding Grand Theft Auto: Vice City's portrayal of Haitians. Activists and advocates had protested in front of New York's city hall because of certain lines of dialogue such as "kill the Haitians." Since that time, even though Rockstar Games agreed to remove the objectionable statement from future copies of the game, Haitian civil rights groups filed the abovementioned lawsuit. The suit isn't directed at Rockstar alone. It's also aimed at Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar's parent company), Sony Computer Entertainment, Microsoft, and retailers Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy. Dannik 43
Penny Arcade has something to say about a ridiculous New York Post article that directly relates to this subject.
WytchDokta 6
From New York Press article: In fact, "whatever you want" is what the game is all about. Thanks to its artful and complex programming and its incredibly realistic graphics, the game creates the impression of being inside a totally unscripted, live-action drama in which you can manufacture your mayhem as you go along. Incredibly realistic graphics? ######? Was the guy writing the article high on drugs when writing that? The graphics are good, but i wouldn't say they're "incredibly realistic". Crimson 0
So, why haven't Russians and Georgians sued UBI? Talk about stupid, it's just a game.

deathmonger338 0
Just some ####head trying to get a few bucks. Just like all that DOOM “controversy” flying around way back when. No wonder America has over 70% of the world’s lawyers. So we can keep up with all the idiots around here suing echother.
The_Slink 0
At least it keeps the lawyers off our backs... Still, this will cost a major packet for someone.
deadly_sniper22 0
well, at my high school, we support Haiti(not including the GTA thingy) but every yaer we raise ooo i would say atleast 30 000 or more dollars for Haiti because their a very poor country. We have provided them with atleast 100 computers, and recently we bought solar panels for schools. Now Haiti is already a poor country, and they've got bullied enough already. They used to have tons of forest, but people have come and cut it all down. I think they are one of the poorest countries in the world. Now about the GTA contreversy, i think their just looking out for themselves. just my opinion. Edited January 5, 2004 by deadly_sniper22

Matt03 0
They might want to sue the makers of Scarface since a lot of the things that are in Vice City were ideas from Scarface. Deep Pocket Theory. People will sue over anything.
WEP_Magnum 0
Just because this suit has gone federal doesn't mean that Rockstar is in bigger trouble- in fact, just the opposite is true. Large defendants almost always remove (term of art) such cases to federal court where they can find a more sympathetic judge to handle pre-trial motions and a more sympathetic jury should the case ever be tried.
