Morning all,

Well it seen that every ones favorite underdog AMD has come to there senses and have dropped the price of the Athon 64 3000+ to around $200 US for the OEM chip.

What does this mean? Well its gonna put an AMD A64 in alot of new gaming machines for 2004. The A64 3000+ has the same core speed as the 3200+ but with half the L2 cache (3200+ has 1 meg and 3000+ 512), but it doesnt seem the effect the performance of the 3000+ that much.

Amand Tech did a comparision of the top dogs from both AMD (A64 3000=, 3200+ and A64 FX-51) and Intel (3.0 and 3.2). Take a look here and see for yourself. You'll see that the 3000+ performs VERY well and is half the price of the rest (a quarter the price sometimes).

With this drop in price and the awsome job they did on the A64 series.....I believe this is what AMD need to take some shares from Intel, if not steal the gaming community from them.
