snared_gambit 0
Does anybody know of any tutorials on how to make custom textures for weapons from scratch instead of using pictures? This is something i want to learn for a while now, but have been unable to find anything about how to make them. Talk with Para. He taught me how to make steel, and it's basically made it so I can make almost anything with enough patience. It's really not hard. If you want, catch me on msn and I can show you how to make steel. My protec helmet was made with the steel technique and a few other tricks. So, I'll show you how to make steel, and how you can add depth and stuff to textures. But, if you want a really good lesson, talk with para. It's not hard once you learn the basics.

Guest SI-Prozac
render peices of your object and use that as a refrence on where to place stuff... the rest is in the brushes and mouse. Depends on how much patience u ahve u can make some really good textures. my 21e i did that way... here some pics Pic1 Pic2 Edited January 1, 2004 by SI-Prozac
Parabellum 12
Hey that's not bad Prozac. You've come a long, long way from when you first asked me to look at your mod. Two thumbs up. @Swartsz: Here's how I do steel 1 - use the clouds filter, with two gray colors. 2 - add noise, with a values of 3%, gaussian, monochromatic. 3 - duplicate this layer 4 - on the new layer, go to blur, and select motion blur. Set the blur at zero degrees, with a movement of 15 - 20 pixels. 5 - repeat, but with the blur at 180 degrees. 6 - Go to blur and select gaussian blur. Set the value at 1 - 3 pixels, depending on what you like. 7 - merge the two layers. Now you've got steel.

Parabellum 12
para, do you happen to know 7 easy steps for plastic and maybe nylon? Hmm... There's such a wide variety of plastics, that it's hard to say, but I use the Bas Relief filter alot when I want a sort of gritty, polymer-type plastic look. For nylon, I'd do something with a clouds filter, and then try some motion blurs, and maybe some different brush strokes, to try to get the look of a bit of texture to it. For stuff like that, though, I usually fall back on the Eye Candy 4000 plugins from Alien Skin. It's a great plugin suite, and it's very reasonably priced, especially if you're a student. swartsz 7
http://st.gaming-interactive.com/tutorials.htm mostly metal tutorials but atleast you can get an idea yeah, it is mostly metal, but if you carefully read all those tutorials you will see a lot of good tips for your own textures. I use the tutorials on this website a lot for my custom textures.
