Dick Splash 23
I was searching through this forum and I couldn't find anything related to this subject. I've seen it mentioned before that you're not allowed to advertise or something. I acquired all sorts of games and merchandise when I worked in the games industry and I couldn't even give it away! I'm sure there are lots of members out there that have games and consoles that they'd like to swap or sell. However, for piece of mind it would be better if they were established members, if you know what I mean! Anyway, what do you think? DS
Xian Saint 0
Yes...it has been mentioned before...and there were even a few posts about it...I recall a few people listing some games they had to offer...but the bottom line is...the actual "deal" must be made in a private forum...(i.e. email or forum PM). That way, the transaction is between the two parties...and the site (i.e. Rocky) has no responsibility or liability if things dont work out and someone gets robbed... Dick Splash 23
Absolutely, a PM is the only way that the transaction should be communicated through. A forum sticky should basically state that this website and it's staff etc. etc. are in no way liable etc. etc., if you know what I mean. For security and piece of mind, I'd only allow regulars to post. If not the danger would be having dodgy types enrolling only to sell or rip people. As I mentioned, I'd accumulated loads of stuff and I couldn't give it away. I'd rather have swapped or given it to gamers who are always skint (broke) Spread the word, see what people think. Rocky 1,224
I'd rather have swapped or given it to gamers who are always skint (broke) Ah, we have plenty of those around here!
NightCrawler 137
That's most of us....
Xian Saint 0
It works...I sold some software to various people here...I've never had a problem with it...I'd say go for it...list what ya got...I bet you'll get some buyers...
Dick Splash 23
So could we have it as a forum for maximum exposure, rather than as a sticky in an existing one where people might not be aware of it? If it doesn't work, or gets abused then just pull the forum! DS Edited December 31, 2003 by Dick Splash
WhiteKnight77 1
We had people offer things in the OT Forum. I can't say how things have worked out, but if you wanna post there and conduct the business via PM you can do it with no liability to GR.net from the way I understand it from Rocky. Dick Splash 23
My only concerns about a non dedicated forum would be that to get exposure, sellers/swappers would be bumping their threads, and other OT subjects would be pushed down out of site. If this dedicated forum was split into say, PC games, console games, hardware, books and militaria as an example then it would be easier for people to find and swap/sell. Full descriptions of all items should be in the post and, if it's an item for sale then the price must be put on the post. All negotiations and questions should be done direct, thus freeing up forum space. I would deter any sales or swaps with people outisde their own countries, where shipping loss and technical issues are more likely to occur. Finally, with any transaction and to make it more serious, a signed print screen of the post should be included. This would make any transaction an issue between both parties and further remove responsibility from the website. Any items sold or swapped should have their posts edited to show this. I bet there are loads of regular members out there that have mint used games, and unwanted stuff that they'd like to swap. At the end of the day, if it doesn't work out, then remove the forum! By the way, if you're looking for someone to monitor this forum then I know a an ex squaddie/car salesman/ebay regular that could offer his services DS Edited December 31, 2003 by Dick Splash
WhiteKnight77 1
I can possibly get an OK for a pinned topic, but I can tell ya now that a dedicated forum will most likely be met with a resounding no. Failing the authorization of a pinned topic, my previous suggestion still stands.
Dick Splash 23
That'd be great WK. I'll post my stuff when the topic's up. Cheers DS
