Yodasplat Posted December 10, 2003 Share Posted December 10, 2003 In the end ... I am a sucker. Can't resist the temptation of a great flight sim. Here's a few pics of me trying to land an f15... I didn't realize I was on final ... too slow. By the time I realized what was happening I wasn't prompt enough in applying full power and I stalled like and idiot right before the runway. All the power of the F15 engines didn't save me ... and I pancaked .. I got the game on my way home and installed it and played with it for an hour or so. I really don't know if the flight model is any good. I only played for an hour and that's not enough. But so far so good. These are some nasty, finnicky beasts to fly. Quite different than my sleepy Cessna, I'll tell you that. Just setting it up is a chore. There are so many options it's insane. No more easy-arcade flight sims out there ... I wouldn't want any for that matter. Even with graphics reduced it really looks good. You can see that. I didn't realize there is a carrier and I didn't realize there is a flyable carrier based fighter in the game. I think that this game is good if you are a sim freak like me. And this would be good for single player really. Multiplayer ... well, I think that IL2 sturmovik works better for that. Why? Cause in modern jet simulators you would spend more times aiming missles and launching them than doing actual dogfighting. Gordo_Viper Posted December 25, 2003 Share Posted December 25, 2003 Hey Jet heads out there, a patch is in the works to fix up our broke Eagles and Aim-120 AMRAAMs. Maybe before New Years or just after according to the dev group. If you haven't laready purchased the F-15 radar is seriously stuffed right now, but fixes are in the mix, as is the AMRAAM, the main armament for the F-15. There are also other major issues with some options, make sure you check out Lo-mac before you throw in the towel. It's bugging in some areas, apparently some people are having major trouble while others are having verry little, the SU25 and A-10 seem to have very little bugs, as they don't have a radar. Also problems with NPP (non player Planes) with some shooting themselves down etc. There are lists of bugs out there. When I finally get Broadband at home and get patched up I'll be in the air hunting down some Migs and Su's and I'd imagine being hunted as well. Eric J who is on GR.Net has some skins for Lo-Mac and there are other skins out there as well. On Lo-mac from what I've seen is a great looking high fidelity combat flight sim- based on real world weapons- (well the F-15 is a miss mash of different configurations). Anyway have a good one and remember check Six! Hopefully I'll have some time off soon and get stuck into Lo-mac, Haven't flown in awhile for real, should be good to get back up in the air, even if I'm in my puter room and not in the cockpit or watching F15's going ballistic at an airshow or ex. Anything by Logitech is good, and the same goes for Saitek. Infact, a ton of people on the official forum for Lo-Mac have Saitek's X45 throttle and joystick combo. As for games that you can also play with it a joystick: any flight game will do, and perhaps even some of the MechWarrior games. The missions all depend on the plane you choose to use. If you choose the A10, you'll mainly be doing ATG, if you choose the F15, you'll mainly be doing ATA. ATA also includes clearing airspace for friendlies. Also, being as realistic as it is, to help me fly the F-15 i've done this: It helps The campain missions a so hard aswell, I always manage to take down a enemy, only to realise i've got a missile chasing me from a trailing mig. And getting the hang of the VSD is hard aswell, I try tochange the altitudes it scans using the shift semi colon and shift period keys but nothing seems to happen... Hi mate, Lock On has some serious bugs in the Mix- the F-15 radar in caimpagn isn't working properly in BVR mode- acually doesn't work at all. So thats why your having problems moving the radar scans about. Other bugs are the AMRAAM isn't working quite right at all, lo PK of kill as oppossed to the Russian AAM's patch is in the works though. There is a Lock On Forum at there Website and encompasses some various areas, like general, Aviation, Wish List etc. You have quite a few how shallwe say- interesting personalities there and just be careful -because they love flaming people. Totally different to GR.Net where you have a very amicable group of people. Lock On Modern Air Combat Website You'll find some really goo info on flying and fighting in Lo-mac on the links found in the news section for the Dec 22nd- links to Sim HQ- well done reviews and helpers for the advanced jet jockey and the noobs out there. These are the following Forums available on Lo-Mac website:- Tech Support Tech Support Aviation Forum Wish List- Basically what you want to Happen with Patches and Add Ons etc and Finally General Forum There is also a Bugs Forum to find out and report on the various Bugs in the game- some are quite big and will be fixed in the patch- due very soon:- Bugs For Set Up and Controllers- don't use a keyboard and Mouse Only- a joystick will make lining up that gunshot and dogfighting a lot easier not to mention make you last that bit longer when you need instanteous turning when someone or something launches on you. Alright as to how hard it is:- Lo-mac isn't a light simulation - they have tried to replicate as best they can the weapon system that fast Jets and Mud Movers are, as such you have a fairly accurate representation of the avionics, weapons, airframe, sensors and environment of modern day air combat. There are 8 flyable aircraft- Mig 29 variants are three of these. SU 27 series are two, then theres the SU25, the A10 and the F-15C. As to types of missions, The F-15C, Su27, Mig 29 variants are mainly air superiorty aircraft in RL, so expect to be shooting down planes, there are some oppurtunities to do some ground attack work with some of these varaints, but not all and it's not there primary tasking. Wait for the add on for fll on multi-role planes For those mud movers out there that like turning tanks into flaming wrecks and getting down and dirty with big calibre gatling guns, there is the A-10 and Su-25- these are dedicated tank killers and you'll get your ground attack fix with these planes, also they will be easier to fly as they don't use radar and have simplified avionics and the bonus of the A-10 Gau-8 30mm Avenger cannon. Hmmmmm Now people- because these are accurate representations- you'll not hop into an f-15 and now everyhting there is to know about how to ) fly it and then b) Fight it straight away. Depending on your background and previous flight sim experience will determine how long before you master the experience. Put it this way, if you where to join an air force you won't be fully mission capable overnight there are various stages along the way- Basic, Lead in jet, Lead In Fighter Training, Type conversion, CAT111, CAT 11 and Finally Cat1 fighter pilot, this process from green rookie to fully fledged hunter of the sky takes years to happen and hundreds of hours to achieve- in real life for a pilot to become capable to actually effectively fight in an F-15 can take anywhere between 300 to 500 hours of flying time and dogfighting practice. Thankfully it won't take as long in the Sim, but at the same time to get good at anything takes time and effort. Start small, complete the training missions a couple of times over, get comfortable with flying the bird and working the avionics, have a go at small set up engagements, one vee one etc and work your way up from there. Also may i suggest having a look at the encyclopedia it comes with and Iding aircraft and systems and knowing which carries what, because when the patch comes out those not working patriot and S-300 Sams will start firinf at you from 60nm away. Also why waste an AMRAAM on a bomber when theres an SU27 around the corner etc. If your not familair with these systems- after playing this game, you will be. So if your a noob I do recommend this sim- even though it's going to be hard- it'll be a rewarding experience for you, just as mastering Ghost Recon is for us all. I have run over the training missions for the F-15 a number of times now and am getting the hang of it.
