It's an RPC vulnerability, which was patched out of Windows not long ago (as others pointed out).

There's no practical fix other than following snakebite1967's link, once you've been breached.

A good firewall will prevent further issues, but once you got the bug, you have to get rid of it before the preventative measures are worth anything.

Dunno if you've done this yet, but a couple of other things relevant to the matter that you may find useful......

1. In case it's not clear to you, before you download and install the patch that helps prevent you being infected by MS.Blast again you'll forst need to remove it, there is a Standalone MS.Blast cleaner at Sites like Norton and Mcafee etc......Run one of them and remove it, and then you can take the next step.....

2. If you install the patch that you are directed to above, be aware that for some reason the damn thing then runs as a seperate process for sme reason, and when I used it once it actually became a real pain in the ######. If you however don't bother with that one and use Windows Update Shortcut on your PC to navigate directly to the relevant page, and then browse through the list of Critical Updates for security etc, one of those contains the MS.Blast fix and once installed it won't run as another process on your Computer. Seemingly the 2 available fixes work in different ways, 1 running passively or that simply fixes the issue that allows MS.Blast in, amd the other that runs actively that picks up attacks as they occur and stop it then.

And as said a Pop up stopper also won't stop it as the problem lies with the RPC procedure of your OS and it's not one of those Windows Pop-ups that annoy us from time to time, that one if it occurs is critical to the System and isn't just for information!!!

Hope ya sorted soon tho :)!!!!!!!!!!

I had thius same problem, i intsalled the patch, and it did ###### all.

So i searched for BLAST, and it found a .exe and something else in system 32 i think.

I tried to delete it, bit it said it was running.

Oh crapstick i thought, this thing could go off at any time, and im in the middle of exam revision!!!

So i ctrl alt dleted, and brought up that window, and went to proesses.

I found MSBLAST, near the bottom. end the process then delete.
