hawkeye1956 0
Hi all. I am working on a door for a garage that has 4 sections to it. I have animated it and now I need help getting it to work. I want to use it like a single door. (Walk up to it and open it or close it). Have tried to do it as a dyn groped with a door tag. When I export it I get a message that there is no origin helper point. I used a grid helper for each section. The whole thing should move up and back like a real garage door. I really need help with one. Thx Jeff
GRT 0
"Taken From level builder.pdf" Doors 1.1.1. Creation Doors can be nearly any size or shape, with varying amounts of geometric complexity. Since animation is handled by keyframes in MAX, the geometry is no longer limited to a box with animation parameters. Below is an example of how to create a basic, box-type door. More creative types can be built upon the same formula. Start by creating a box for the actual door, sized to fit the door frame, and about 10cm thick. A helper point is to be placed in the door at the point where the door will rotate. This helper point MUST be created in the “top” view in MAX and MUST be named “O”. The geometry and helper point must be grouped together and named “r_<n><door>x” where r is the ROOM NUMBER THAT THE DOOR OPENS INTO (very important) and x is a unique identifier. This unique identifier can be letters or numbers; and what it is does not matter to how the door functions. Do not attach this door to any other groups. my outside room is named _01 so my door would be named "01_<n><door>mydoor"(with out the " ") . If you have island thunder the level builder.pdf is on the cd(for doors is part 21 of 62). theres more you have to do in the map editor.

OSO 0
try a "point" helper in lieu of a "grid" helper. Make sure you place it in the top viewport. All dynamic groups need an origin helper point That's the capital "O" named helper grouped with the group.
hawkeye1956 0
Hay thank you EL_OSO. I have restarted making the door I have got the helper points set on each one and grouped. I started to do the animation. Once I finish that how should I name the panel groups and do I need to group them all as one object ?
OSO 0
You'll need a helper point grouped with the final mesh and name it like a door if you want the player to be able to open it. Edited December 6, 2003 by EL_OSO
