H-Hour 0
If you're looking for maps with no buildings, you might look into Apostle's map pack thingy. It's got a lot of 400x400 patches with hills and stuff. So you would just need to create trees and foliage and scatter them about. Sounds like you already know how to get the texturing done. CBA_Bludawg 0
it doesnt matter if it has trees and buildings,it would be nice though. i was just wondering if someone had 1 map sitting around, that would allow me to add it to my maps.ive been looking for some but havent found any and dont know anyone that builds maps. i just started doing this 2 weeks ago, i have 8 maps done and just started looking for a new one last night. lexsis 0
you can ask the author of Frostbite., he made all new winter maps.
sleeper 0
you can ask the author of Frostbite., he made all new winter maps. There is no 1 "the author" of Frostbite. There is no "he" There were 4 people who made maps for Frostbite. These maps were for the most part strictly made for Frostbite and although I cannot speak for all 4 map makers, I would say that the chances of using any of them are very slim. Im sure Frostbite doesnt contain the only winter themed maps ever made, hopefully someone else can help him out. I think hes looking for user made maps that can simply be retextured as well. fr1j0l3 2
I think the frosbite folks are treating their mod like an expansion pack. Use it like that, and don't bundle a map with your own mod individually is the only way to use FB maps. (well, not the only way, but the only "right" way)
CBA_Bludawg 0
yeah sleeper i was looking for a map to retexture, had no intention of using frostbite maps. i have a guy teaching me how to use 3dsm and helping me make a map, so im making my first one with him lol we will see anyways thanks
San 0
I think snow-maps are quite easy to make (let alone retexture), the ground for instance is all white (at least most of it). Only to make it better (using details) you could make some snow-piles at the bottom of objects, or something like that. But you'll need 3dsm for that. Also a thick snow-ground sounds like snow when you walk on it, ofcourse with a retex-map you could override the sound-files, but then all maps with that sound sounds like snow ! BTW when retexturing a map, can you lit the map in the Lighting-Tool for a second time (because the original is already lit) ? Or do you load the lighting-dmp-file and resave that ? That's why I'm not very fond of retextured maps (how beautiful they are).
eleven7 0
BTW when retexturing a map, can you lit the map in the Lighting-Tool for a second time (because the original is already lit) ? to answer your question, yes. You can use the lighting tool. The texture doesn't have lighting applied to it. Another file called darkmap is the file that uses the information from the lighting tool to show your lighting in game. I believe darkmap files are specific to the maps that were used to generate them so using an existing one for a new map isn't going to work right (if at all).
eleven7 0
wow... my member # is 4365. 4+3=7 6+5=11 ... 7 11, it's my handle backwards. that's scary..I mean what were the chances of that happening? Edited December 6, 2003 by eleven7
