Crimson 0
Whats the difference between the XT and a 9800 Pro 256MB card? Looks like a tiny bit more fill rate and a little overclocking.
ghost gamer 0
from what I can tell, its just a shade faster. I have been at motherboards.org and tomshardware.com reading up on all the info.I was thinking about getting the fx 5950, but after taking an objective look at the 9800xt and the fx 5950, to me, the 9800xt is better. The bench mark tests show the 9800 xt being faster in, ball park terms, perhaps 70% of the tests.Image quality wise, the two are very close. When you consider that the 9800 xt only takes up one open slot, instead of both an agp and a pci for the fx 5950 and it comes with a coupon for half life 2, its hard to pick the fx 5950. The clincher was the driver issues. To me it seems Nividia is still working out the driver bugs. I have consistently read that the difference between the two cards really show up as the resolutions go up as well as other quality enhancing settings. I have never had any trouble with my previous Nvidia cards. But after looking at all the facts, I am now a Radeon fan. 9800 xt, all the way. Yeah, its only a little faster than the 9800 pro, but what the heck.
snakebite1967 0
the 9800xt has basicly the same specs as the 9800 pro, the only diference is overdrive . the xt has a temp sensor and the ability to safely overclock its self in games to give u the best perforamce, it also has a manual overclock ability built into the newer cat drivers tho bear in mind its only a maximum of 5% faster at high resolutions than a regular 9800 pro. all 9800 pro/xt cards use 8 pipelines and have a 256 memory bus even the 128 pro , the xt has a newer style of cooler and a sensor, the downside to this is that any 9800 pro can perform the same as an xt card with adequate cooling and a safe small overclock the major diference is that the xt will not allow u to run over safe limits pre set by ATI unless u use a 3rd party driver such as the Omega's. the one plus is a voucher for hl2 if its ever released plus some other free games by valve, does the diference in price even with hl2 bundled make it worth while ? jayster 0
could anyone tell me the difference with the 9800se?
snakebite1967 0
the 9800se isnt an official ATI product its only made by 3rd party companies like powercolor or saphire, unless your extremely lucky it only has a 128bus and 4 pipelines tho a few do have 256 bus and 8 pipelines but they are in the minority. a 9600 pro/xt or a 9800 non pro will outperform a 9800se, as i said if your extremely lucky you may find a 256/8 pipeline model but they are extremely rare and as the 9800se only has a 50% chance of a soft or bios mod and generaly has a weak overclock you get stuck with a less than adequate gaming card. ATI has pulled the 9800 non pro out of production because of ppl buying a cheaper card purely to mod into a 9800 pro once the se model was released a lot of ppl generaly thought it would perform the same as the non pro which it didnt
Crimson 0
Okay, so come Christmas afternoon(ish), my plan is to have a shiney XT purring away. I wont be asking for anything else so, I should know what the lone box under the tree is.
Cobblers 12
Well just recently I purchased a new PC. And at about the same time I the Ati Pro 256MB was being replaced by the Ati XT 256MB, so the XT is the one that I've got. I've been well impressed by the card tbh, I'm not much of a techy about these type of things, but the FPS I'm getting in games compared to my 128MB Nvidia Ti4600 is muc better. Why I ever moved over to Nvidia from my old 64MB Ati card I'll never know! The XT is a bit pricey maybe, but reviews for the ATI XT 256 MB card compared to over makes and models about has been very good. They have all claimed it as being the best card out at the moment. But I hoping that this card will be good enough to run GR2 at pretty much top spec, if that does happen then I'm laughing. Are there any web sites that you can visit that can give your Graphics card a test in performance? If there is, let me know and I'll post up the results in here. Cobblers 12
Hmm, I think that 3DMark might already be on the PC. I'll give it ago tonight and post up the results this evening. Thanks for the tip |rsi|â„¢deleyt
snakebite1967 0
http://www.driverheaven.net/index.php http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/foru...php?forumid=115 http://www.amdforums.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=33 these are jsut some of the ati forums that list tips tricks and benchmark apps. madonion 01 or 03 isnt realy a realistic game benchmark IMHO, aquamark or the ut2003 benchmark is more realistic. running at 6x AA and 8x AF and getting between 150 to 500 fps in gr with vertical sync turned off and all settings maxed has finaly allowed me to see GR in the way it was made to be seen, its a whole new game. a pro or an xp will have no problems at all with the new games being released in the near future, ive also ran the max payne 2 demo full settings and sat amazed at the graphics quality
Cobblers 12
I have got 3D Benchmark, I didn't get time to run it last night, but I should have something up for this evening.
