SOTOMac 0
Once You Install an Expansion Pack ( "IT" ) It attaches Itself to the whole Game. Therefore to Uninstall "IT" - You'd need to Uninstall the whole Game. Once that was done and You'd cleared out all the Reg. entries for "GR" You'd then Install "GR", Then Install "DS", Then Patch up You'd be in Business... Secondly - In order to use a Mod with elements of "IT" - Others would need that same Mod to Join. That said as long as those Joining had the same Mod as You ( Even w/ Elements of "IT" in It ) - You should be O.K. Sincerely,
Specter 0
@Mac That being stated, and Im just asking because Im new to modding, if he has a mod that has elements of IT in it, wont it requie IT to reference the IT files for those elements, and if it cant find them, wont that concievably crash the game? SOTOMac 0
Well - As in any Mod - If certain things native to It are Coded Correctlly ( .gun Files, .chr Files, .mis Files ), then in essence the Game should not crash. This is of course with a "GR" & "DS" Patched to the Version 1.4 Engine. I mean - If Its Coded correctly - Then like any other Mod it should work. That stated - Making a Mod with Elements of "IT" in It comes close to Violating the EULA of "GR". If You haven't bought the Expansions and then a Buddy Mods Elements of that Expansion into a Mod - It could be viewed as tantamount to Stealing or Pirating the Expansion... Be warned if thats Your Direction. Respectfully,
Specter 0
No. What I meant was, if you make a mod, and you use like character files and such like we see in mods, that need to reference elements of IT, such as the map file or some such, then wouldnt it shutdown? You know, like referencing a weapon or character file that wasnt intro'ed until IT. And then the game crashes? For example, the 8 Days campaign for DS. If you just copied those missions into the mods\origmiss folder, then didnt have DS installed, they would crash the game. Thats the kind of thing I was referring to. I have a feeling that my wording is poor here Mac. You know I take the same stand you do as far as the issues you named. I was talking about from a technical point of view. SOTOMac 0
Right - And what I was getting at is that as long as ANY Files are referenced correctly - They'll be called for and will present. Its things like the Weapons being slung or shown on the OPs when they weren't in Original "GR". The Patches brought those Refinements to Us. Without the Patches any Mod would run in "GR" as long as It was Coded correctly but It would do so without the Enhancements that the Patches provided. The Missions You mentioned - Reference Files from "DS" and so that was a necessary Expansion Pack to have due to the referencing of those Files from "DS" by the Mission File ( .mis ). That said - If those References come from Your Mod and all Files referenced are Included in that Mod - You should be O.K. as long as those references are of course correctly Coded into the Mod.
