snared_gambit 0
Go into the file menu, and look for a button called merge. You can bring parts or the entire model into another scene. Just click merge, and then select all and your entire model will come into the scene you've got. If it's in 3ds format, or some other file type, use import in the same way. WytchDokta 6
It's another shooter (in 3DS format) so I gotta import it and not merge it right? Also, how do I ungroup parts of the weapon? i.e if I have got the trigger guard and trigger grouped as one part and I only wanna copy the trigger, it only lets me select the whole part (trigger and trigger guard). How do I ungroup it again? Edited November 13, 2003 by -[NCM]- .:Nightmare:.
snared_gambit 0
Yes. Import it. And to ungroup, go up to the menu grouping. Select the pieces you want to ungroup, then click on ungroup. Works like a charm, or it should.
WytchDokta 6
So I can bring parts in with import? I only wanna bring parts in, not the whole weapon. Sorry I'm a 3DSM newbie. Trying to finish me Famas G2
snared_gambit 0
I can't remember and I'm at school right now, but I don't think you can. Just ungroup them and delete the pieces you don't want.
swartsz 7
you could also use the Clone tool in 3sdm to 'copy and paste' the parts you want.
WytchDokta 6
I found the clone tool. I can clone it, but one I have cloned it, how do I paste it again? Do I gotta do it through import?
swartsz 7
you could save the cloned part and merge it with the model.
WytchDokta 6
Oh I see, so I save the cloned parts, then import them into me other scene (weap)?
swartsz 7
that is one way of doing it!
WytchDokta 6
Oh ok.
WytchDokta 6
Well I can't ungroup. I select all of it, go to Groups and all that's selecatable it Group, Ungroup is greyed out. But it definatley is grouped. I'll come back to this in a mo'. First lemme explain the situation: Chems was helping me with the Famas (texturing, tweaking etc). Trouble is, his unit scale is set to 1 unit = 1 inch. So when he sent it back, I had to rescale it to 1 unit = 1 cm (my unit scale and the correct scale according to the tutes) The when I load it up in 1 unit = 1 cm scale I get this: Pretty funk eh? You have to admit, it does look kinda cool! As you can see, the texture has gone all gay, and there's wierd missing faces to some of the parts. None of this occurs when I load it up in 1 unit = 1 inch, but in that unit scale it's alot smaller than the 1 cm unit scale one. I wanted to fix the missing faces. So I wanted to copy parts from the fubar one and paste into a new scene. Then I would remake the other parts! However, going back to grouping, it won't let me select the bits I want. I can select the clip, the bit that holds the clip the grip (whatever it's called) and the bits of the barrel at the front. When I try to select and other parts, It just comes up with a white box around the outside of the Famas. So I can't select the carry handle, butt etc. Need some help here guys! EDIT: I also somehow managed to get the cursor so it's got a light blue box with a cross in the middle. How do I get rid of the light blue box from the cursor? I can't use the line tool properly with it when it's got the light blue box. Pls help! Edited November 15, 2003 by -[NCM]- .:Nightmare:.
WytchDokta 6
Hello....? <echo resounds harshly off the walls>
Tech 0
Maybe you deleted an extra face when deleting unnecessery ones? If it`s the case, you can always create it again by selecting the part of your gun where there is a missing face, then "edit mesh"»"polygons"»"create" and then you "contour" your missing face by clicking on the dots, red or blue, that are around this specific empty face, If the empty spot turns red, it worked... I had to do this a couple of times and it worked fine for me... T.E.C.-Leader Tactical*Elite*Corps
WytchDokta 6
Still doen't answer my question of how to remove the light blue box thing from around the cursor....and no I didn't delete and faces. All I did was loaded it up in correct unit scale.
Tech 0
Pretty strange...Never had a blue box problem... Still not a 3dsmax guru myself...Still learning like all of us on this earth...! When you load it in inches, it`s ok ? I don`t think it really matters what unit you use...I`ve always used the inch one... What I say is if it`s ok in inches, then keep it that way, it won`t change a thing (IMO), `cause you will still have to rescale it to export to GR... Tell me what you think on that, meanwhile I`ll do some searching on my side, see if I can come up with some answer to the blue box thing... By the way, how did you end up with this blue box? Still your famas looks great man T.E.C.-Leader Tactical*Elite*Corps
WytchDokta 6
I dunno bout how I got the blue box thing. The Famas comes up ok in inches. I have a pic of it here somewhere. The blue box is not a solid box. It's an outline with a cross in the middle. I think it's meant to be a precise cursor, although you can only move it over the squares on the grid. So much for being precise.... I'll have to see if inches is ok....I'll have to export it.
SnowFella 8
Sounds like you have the snap feature turned on and set to snap to grids. Does your cursor look anything like the one in the following pic? If so the little button I have circled in will turn it off. Hope this helps mate Snow
WytchDokta 6
Yeah, it do look like that. Does anyone else know if it matters or not if i use cm or inches unit scale?
