venividivici 0
I've spent a good week on this mess. I really need some help. Below is my system info from dxdiag, the ike.log and ike crash.log (not sure if i'm supposed to post this now, anyway). Here are some notes: I have a legit copy of GR 1.0.0.2. Crash to desktop at that ver. I patched up to 1.4, still CTD at 2nd mission. I can play the first mission fine. Right after I select my team for the 2nd mission and try to begin the mission I get CTD. I have done a clean install of XP and reinstalled GR. Still CTD. I am not running any mods. I have the updated drivers for my graphics card and sound card. Before I had done the clean install I had even tried updating to DX 9, but it did not help. I am sticking with DX8 right now. I noticed in the ike.log there is an indication of some missing files. Well these files are not on the cd in the first place. I came across some other peoples posts of their ike.logs and they have the same missing files, so I don't think that is the problem. I am playing from a saved game. One member of a team got killed. I really don't think this should matter when it comes to playing the second mission, but hey, you never know. I am completely stumped. Therefore I am here and this is my last resort. Hopefully someone can help. Thanks! here is my info: ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 11/2/2003, 15:50:20 Machine name: BKK Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) (2600.xpclient.010817-1148) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: VIA Technologies, Inc. Specter 0
With those Nvidia drivers, you should go to directx9.0b. Also, you need to have the latest VIA 4in 1 drivers for the chipset on your mobo. Also, when you patched to 1.4, did you apply the 1.3 patch first? Was your game bundled with something or is it stand alone? Is it the Gold Edition? But those late model Nvidia drivers will give you trouble without the latest VIA 4in 1's, and the latest directx, and directx8.1 had issues with XP, as it was written for 9x, and was never really compatible with XP. To stick with 8.1, you need to go back to an older Nvidia ddriver such as the 21.83's that were written for 8.1. Also, go into your main GR directory, and see if you can locate the Options XML file. The other noted missing files are normal, and wont cause a crash.
venividivici 0
Thank you kindly for your time and detailed reply! Looks like I have some work cut out for me. By you asking that question, I just noticed that the new cd I got states 'bundle version not for resale.' Makes me wonder because when GR was first released I had a working version on this same PC. Same mobo and graphics card (without the updated drivers, so yes that may be the problem) and OS (using DX8). But if the bundle ver. is not the problem then I'm sure it's one of the other things you listed. Also, I can't find the options.xml. I did a search in the entire folder for it and nothing came up. When I patched I did go to 1.3 then to 1.4. So I'm curious to hear what your take is on the bundled ver. If it doesn't make a difference then I will proceed with all the other steps. Thanks again for your time. It is much appreciated. Edited November 3, 2003 by venividivici
Specter 0
What was it bundled with? Was it bundled with an MSI video card? If so, see the pinned topic at the top of this forum for a resolution.
venividivici 0
Well I bought the cd for $5 off of ebay so I don't know what it was bundled with. I will try to contact the ebay seller and find out. I know it's definitely not a bootleg because of the factory type image printing on the cd face. You can tell it's an original. O.k., well I'm off to contact the seller. I'll follow up later. Thanks again.
Specter 0
If it was bundled, it should say on the label what it was bundled with. Generally if it doesn't say, it wasn't a bundled version.
venividivici 0
Here is the cd. GR cd face It's all I got. It's definitely a bundled ver. as you can read on the cd. I did not receive a box. Is that where you are refering to when you say that on the label it indicates what the bundled ver. is bundled with? I am still waiting to hear back from the ebay member. Most likely tommorrow. I'll keep you informed. Thanks again.
Syncopator 0
Yup - there you go. MSI printed loud and clear. Phantm's assumed correct - check the thread on the GR CDs bundled with MSI graphics cards. Top of this forum section. I'm sure he'll help ya with any other questions. Obviously someone punting it as they couldn't get it working....
venividivici 0
Duh! I'm such an idiot. I totally missed that. Yes, he asked about MSI earlier and I didn't even make the connection. There it was plain to see on the cd! Well, at least that explains it. I am heading off to go read that thread now. Thanks guys.
venividivici 0
Well, here's the conclusion. I am now playing the second mission! I am surprised to see that the problem was one of the issues I had originally suspected but not convinced that it could be an actual problem. It had to do with the saved mission that I kept playing from. Here's what I did: I did not install any new drivers or mess with any configurations. I kept everything the same. I got ahold of another version of GR. I imported the saved game into that version and got the same CTD at the start of mission two. I finally decided simply to play the whole first mission over and make sure I did not lose any team members. Well, lo and behold, I was able to proceed to the second mission! I imported this new saved data into the original bundled version I had on the other drive (the one with the original problems) and it played fine as well! So it was not a problem with my system or that bundled version. It was the saved game I kept playing from. How interesting! Well, I'm just glad that I am able to play now. I appreciate all your help! Take care!
