I have been running some test to see what the best way to get good framerates is . Obviously using the very informative commentary posted by one of your members in the RECON folder, I have been making some changes here and there to increase framerates. I have a Joe Schmoe PC that is not intended to be a high end gamestation, but it is fairly good. The question is this: What is a good framerate in this game, I have seen where people have 80 fps, but that is on low res, with low settings and I know it is a matter of choice, but I have tweaked as much as possible and mine get down to 19/17 fps....is this really bad?? The game seems ok, but maybe I am not seeing everything as quick as I should be....(which makkes me a pretty ###### MP player) Thanks for any decent answers, any flameouts would be amusing to read as well. Second, We need most of the info requested here to give you any kind of an accurate answer. I was really only trying to get an idea of what 'acceptable' framerates are as I am getting as low as 5 but averaging out at about 19, with high (looking at the sky of about 55. You may want to consider upgrading both. www.pricewatch.com has a list of computer parts. I usally order from www.newegg.com or www.zipzoomfly.com reliable service. Thankz Just because you aren't a computer expert doesnt make you a dummy. One thing to consider also, and I have personally run into this, is rolling the SoundMax drivers back to the BAM AC97 sound drivers. The Sound Max drivers, at least for me, are a total pain, and they do use some resources. I think the BAM AC97 drivers are better. This is one of those cases where updating the driver isnt necessarily better. Also, I have the same onboard sound, and it isnt a bottleneck for frame rates at all bud. The Video card would be. But the BAM AC97 Onboard sound controller is not. Im using a GeForce 4 Mx440 64 MB Video card, and average 65-75 FPS on standard, non-modded missions. With mods and modded missions, results will vary depending on scripting and eye candy. But I wouldnt waste money on a sound card. Put it towards a better video card, the best you can afford, as it will transfer to a new machine if you are so inclined. Also, check out this thread for more frame rate information. WhiteKnight77 Posted October 21, 2003 Share Posted October 21, 2003 While I have a rather stout system (link to specs in sig) I get anywhere from 277FPS to 20 or less depending on the map. Some of the IT maps are a ###### and really put a hurting on everything. Like Phantm and NurFace said, dump the onboard sound and install a SB Live 5.1 at least if not better and totally disable onboard sound. That will put a really big hurt on framerates. A newer vid card would be a great help too. A GF 4 4600 should be cheap nowadays and be a really big boost in preformance. Your CPU though about a year old or so isn't that bad off and could possibly last you another year with those 2 upgrades. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I like the game to look nice 1024x768x32 and most options set for medium to high even shadows. If I get 20fps Im happy with it. I cant really physically see over 30 or so fps so I dont care. Ive heard that there is a difference that is noticeable at higher framerates but Ive never noticed anything that made me want to pursue higher framerates.
