supasniper 0
It's an AKS-74U and as it stands it's 1983 polys
Swarm 0
It looks good man but please use another background color, that one simply takes over the whole picture. A light grey works well
Parabellum 12
I don't see enough finite details, to warrant 1983 polys.
supasniper 0
most of the polys are in a few cylinders that make up the barrel and the long struts of the stock
snared_gambit 0
Just 1 thing, select the top of the entire weapon, and texture that. It's a good 1st attempt at a high poly weapon. But 1983 polys is quite high for the detail level in that. How many segments is your barrel made of? I'd use a piece of advice para gave me. Use 6 sided cylinders for now. supasniper 0
thanks, i'll try the 6 sided cylinders and see, also i'll play about and get the top textured
Thumper1518 62
I use 8 or 12 sided n-gons and find they work well when you've planned them in advance and deleted the hidden faces. They look rounder without the poly-penalty imposed by using the cylinders.
Swarm 0
I try to use Ngons every chance I get but some times I simply use a cylinders when either I want a nice round barral or my poly gon counts are low enough to warrent the use of them.
Tollen 0
Is it now the guy that doesn't know squat about weapons modelling comes in and tells Supasniper that it looks good? As I said, I don't know squat about 3DSM, but that gun looks like an improvement over the AKS-74U featured in the original GR.
Guest SI-Prozac
also its probly about 1700 polys more to.... but yeah... get rid hieght segments... decrease that to 1 and use 8 sides .... should bring it down. And when you use splines to make the gun make sure you change all vertexs to Corner before you extrude it.
SnowFella 8
Nice work there supa for being your first! & as some other ppl have said, the polygon count might be alittle to high on a gun with that limited details. I've found that 6 sided Ngons work perfectly for things as the struts in the stock, the end bits are covered so you wont see them. And another thought, is that model optimized or are all the hidden faces still there? Snow
supasniper 0
all the hidden faces are still there (don't know how to remove them yet) also i've changed the cylinders to 12 sided Ngons and poly count has dropped to 1295
Marcinko 1
LOL, i use 14. As for texturing, Supa, if you texture the way i explained it to you, ur set.
supasniper 0
i can texture the sides no problem but i just can't get the top to work right
snared_gambit 0
Is it now the guy that doesn't know squat about weapons modelling comes in and tells Supasniper that it looks good? That's me . . .
Parabellum 12
A little OT, but, it's not true that using N-Gons reduces poly count over using cylinders. A 10-sided N-Gon, with 1 segment, and no caps, has 20 faces. So does a cylinder with the same number of faces and segments.
