snared_gambit 0
Well, after many long hours in max, I've hammered out this model. It's an M4 cqb. I haven't begun texturing yet, but that'll commence soon. I hate texturing, but this model is good, eh? Tell me what you think of my baby!
Parabellum 12
I dig the aimpoint mount.
Pyro_Monty 0
Looks nice man, but you may want to think about the allignment of each of the components. For example, the top of the foresight looks quite detached from the piece that it's sitting on. Same goes for objects around the trigger guard, stock, Aimpoint, magazine and barrel. The easiest way to correct things like these is to use the 'Align' feature and select the maximum point of one object to attach to the minimum of the next. Either that or do it the hard way (which is very necessary with odd-shaped objects) - convert each object to an editable mesh or poly, select the farthest vertices of one object, take a note of its 3D coordinates in Max, then move the corresponding vertex of the next object into the same place. Gets tiring, for sure, but you end up with a really solid model. Heck, I used to regularly use Pythagoras' Theorem and various trigonometric formulae when building a Peugeot 306 model for the 22nd SAS update.
dagger 0
Looking good man
snared_gambit 0
I've taken all this into account and I got, thankfully, an RIS handguard from Argyll. That thing looks great. Will follow up with more pics l8tr today.
snared_gambit 0
I wonder why no one is interested in my best work? Oh well, perhaps these renders will help you guys like it. How's that?
Whisper_44 0
Looks good to me snared, heck of a lot better than I could ever hope for. I'll stick to painting.
swartsz 7
only thing i see is that the holes on the RIS may be a bit off, they look a bit distorted. the rest looks great!
snared_gambit 0
only thing i see is that the holes on the RIS may be a bit off, they look a bit distorted. the rest looks great! I didn't make the RIS! Argyll did! All I did was resize it so it might've been my fault it looks a bit odd. edit I don't know if anyone else noticed, but I just did. For the lense covers of the COMP II, I used the reciever of my m4. They say colt distinctly on them Edited October 7, 2003 by snared_gambit
SpLaTTy 0
hey snared lovley models man,one word of advice, try not to smooth your cylinders unless u have absolutly have to,becuz it puts a nasty black shadding around it and at the back,it might make it less polyed when you do smooth but try it without it one time.Once again nice model. snared_gambit 0
Stupid file got corrupted! But I had a backup that wasn't textured!
Parabellum 12
What are you using for textures for the rest of the gun? I know that you're using my RIS texture, but what's the rest? It looks a bit blury, and the grooves on the mag are distorted.
snared_gambit 0
Actually, that's the textures in your Para Armory. They're not on correctly, as I'm not any good at texturing yet. And remember, you told me I could use them.
snared_gambit 0
My texturing = bad. I dunno how to texture and get it to not be blurry like that. I'll just have to read tutorials . . . *sigh*
Parabellum 12
Huh. I wonder why one texture would be so sharp, and the rest not so sharp.
Swarm 0
I've had it happen. I was trying to texture my M1a model but the left side of the reciver showed up VERY clear but the rest of the textures were blurry-ish. I think the size and how good of a pic you used for the part makes a difference (I was trying to texture the weapon with pictures of parts from different guns). So far my model rocks but I can't texture for the life of me. I always seem to mess it up somehow
Guest SI-Prozac
only problem i really see is the magazine... but wrest looks good to me
snared_gambit 0
The mag is pretty messed. I figured out the blurry texture thing 2! Also, I've moved onto a more advanced method of UVW unwrapping. Pain's way isn't 2 special for high poly models Edited October 8, 2003 by snared_gambit
snared_gambit 0
I'm slowly becoming a perfectionist like the rest of you I redid the whole thing's texture! And now my favorite piece: My aimpoint! Another four hours right there I know there are still some imperfections, but hey, it still looks pretty good eh?! EricJ 0
It's looking great snared_gambit, but I'm getting a few not so warm fuzzies on a couple of parts. On the M4, the barrel radius doesn't extend outside the bottom flanges of the front sight post assembly. The other thing is the mount for the Aimpoint. By all rights an Aimpoint is not heavy at all, but ones that are on the market are definitely thicker than what you have. Looks too flimsy, especially ones made by GG&G. Extrude it so it "covers" the top rail, and it would look more realistic. Other than that man, good work!
lexsis 0
gambit, your gun looks great., I like it alot (know I know who to turn to for some custom models
