tellurye 0
Hey, guys. I haven't tooled around with this enough, just started last nite. I was playing around with Max 4.2 and exported the example map (the Castle one) and it did just fine. It did the textures, of course, they were in RSB. So my map wasn't textured. What's the quickest way around this (if there is one). Would I simply have to convert all the textures to a max format (such as .tga, or tiff, jpg) and re-apply them to all the stuff in the map, or is there a way to take the PhotoShop plugin and put in into max so max knows its a texture file, so when it calls the rsb, it applies the correct textures? In case u r wondering what the heck I'm doing, I don't plan on playing this in GR. I got the soldier models out, and am working on a movie, Fan-art, for you guys to thank u for all the help u have given me on this forum. Some of the stuff u guys make are awesome!! So I just need a scene, if you will, to put my soldier in so I can make my movie. Thanks in advance. cobaka 0
One of the plugins for max allows it to use the rsb files. I believe if you can see the textures in max (at least in the castle map) then you're good to go. When you export, make sure your export window points to the folder with the textures - for the castle map I guess that would be the MP06 map in the maps folder. tellurye 0
Thanks, cobaka, for the reply. You are correct. I found a tute from Mike Schell, who wrote how to do it. The sample map comes witha max file, so it worked well. I do have a question. Is there anyway to export the maps from GR from Igor in a format so that Max can open them? I know how to make a level in max and import it into GR, but can you do this the other way around? I found a neat map that I would like to have in my movie. I'm pretty sure I read some where that this only goes one way (meaning you can import your own models and maps into GR from max, but not the other way around. Thanks! cobaka 0
Unfortunately, you are correct. You can only export maps from max to GR format. You cannot import GR maps into max through any method I know of. Mike Shell figured out how to de-compile the GR format to import into Max, but that is his little secret. If he released that knowledge, it could lead to people stealing other people's work (including Red Storm's) or no doubt help people come up with cheats. Plus, I'm sure it would violate the EULA.
