Tollen 0
Is there somebody that can talk me through the steps to convert a day-map into night? Or is it that simple that you just have to recolor the DARKMAP- and the GROUNDMAP-files? Would be thankfull for any help!

Parabellum 12
According to RSE, you can't actually change the lighting on maps. But that's not true. I've made a night time embassy map before, using the light editor.

sleeper 0
The main problem with retexturing in many maps is the lighting. You can do a day to night but it makes everything 'not quite right'. Night to day is quite easy though. Its just a matter of adjusting the dynamic lighting and photoshopping the darkmaps. Even normal retexturing will require you to at least adjust the darkmaps. When I retextured all of the DS maps from desert into snow (for Wolfsong's Swedish Force mod) I had to adjust the dynamic lighting as well as the darkmaps on almost every map, the most noticeable of course is the Aurora map, which was completely converted from night to day with a sun light added that even dynamically lights the characters correctly. I also had to 're-draw' the ground color maps and have the lighting tool generate new appropriate shadows. If you arent picky just photoshop the darkmaps but youll still be left with funny colors here and there and the dynamic lighting will be incorrect. Oh, change the skybox and .env settings as well
San 0
What about a house with lights on (inside), because it was originally a night-map. After night2day conversion, lights still on ?
soup31314 0
Well I'm a little out of the time when it comes to modding maps. But the way I would change a map from day to night was in igor. You change the sky texure, add some bringing in the far clipping, and darking the far clipping to a dark color. That is how I did it for my weather map I did up before I left for Iraq. harntrox 0
Get Mike Schells Ambient Lighting Editor tool. Tag the maps with gray value 32-64. Less than 32 you will not be able to see too much detail on the characters. Adjust dark maps accordingly as well, in photoshop. Once that is done, test that map make sure theres no bright walls. Bright trees aren't too obnoxious and actually make better gameplay. Theres a number of exploits in the game related to ambient lighting and level of detail on trees when viewed with night vision so leaving the trees bright mitigates this effect. On most maps you will be just fine with only modifying the darkmaps. Just be sure to set the ambient lighting to a reasonable value and it will look fine. --h
