review An Honest Review of Wildlands
Bodark Zulu posted a topic in GR: Wildlands - General Discussion
Hey everyone! So I decided to make my own full review of wildlands after seeing so many bad reviews of the game, because I love it so much. I used a script which I'm not used to so if you want to read the notes I used for the video then just take a look below. Let me know what you think. Pros Before I praise the game for its best parts I want to play some clips that I think show the unique nature of the game. My initial thoughts on the game were pretty harsh since it seemed like a 180 from ghost recon future solder but as I've been playing it lately I actually love it . It pushes the boundaries of depth and immersion for a realistic setting , Is 4 player cooperative , Is one of the first games I've ever seen to emphasize the importance of situational awareness and how nicely layered level design can hinder or improve a missions success not to mention that some missions are very creative and get intense at times, even for those who didn't find to much of a challenge you can customize your HUD for a more realistic experience if you desire. The expansion Fallen Ghosts had the exact tone that I wish the entire game carried . I think my favorite enemy was El yayo because he felt like a real character , as far as the most impactful missions those would be where we found out about agent Sandoval or when amaru died in the end of the game . They were some of the only missions that made me feel like there were real consequences for us trying to turn the entire cartel on its head. Cons Not enough cutscenes , poor voice acting , AI Civillians every freaking where and even when ###### got thick they would stay there and run towards gun fire or cower . Me spawning a vehicle and not being able to find it at all . Being able to change your loadout on the fly . If thats the case then why are you even able to change it at a ammo refill. Stupid upgrades . The pvp came very much after the initial release although granted it was made apparent that it wasn't meant to be that kind of game I still think that the PvP given to us is a glorified squad death match where you hunt each other . The objective based, team work oriented PvP in ghost recon future soldier in my eyes is the best. Attention to detail clips Narco road / loot boxes / stupid AI Fallen Ghost/ Still adding and Changing things to the game Alot of reviews were super harsh on this game. When I think about the whole controversy about Big media outlets stealing content from creators and Exaggerated reviews of Clean Price and Down Ward thrust. Some were probably riding the train, but after awhile I began to love this game . I just had to appreciate it for what it was and not focus on what it wasn't. A direct sequel to Future Soldier. This game is different from alot of other shooters I played. To be specific you need complete situational awareness. It doesn't hold your hand if you're oblivious. The environment isn't just there for good looks, it's part of what makes the game challenging and just as well its part of it's charm. Whether it's going to a mission, or escaping an area when the mission didn't go as planned. Maybe the enemy base is littered with patrols , gates , checkpoints , sniper towers. There are deserts, snowy mountains, jungles , swamps, underground bases , Air fields Show less -
A pretty long winded explanation of how I felt about this game initially and how I came to love it. I'll also be talking about the youtube side of the ghost recon diagram. If your a long time fan of the series or a newcomer this may be really something you can relate to. So basically if you're on this site you'll probably be interested in what I have to say in this video.

One of the most talked about online games as of late is Player Unknown's Battlegrounds. If you are unfamiliar it is a 100 player battle royale shooter. You leap out of a C-130 transport flying over a large but walkable island style map. You land and begin a hunt for weapons. If you land in a city full of other players (you do control where you jump and land) the first minutes can be a fierce scramble for gear, trying to avoid a machete to the back or a pistol round to the face. If you find a secluded area, you might be tight on supplies, but it gives you a second to breathe. Then the play zone circle appears. It is enforced by an ever shrinking "blue zone". Step into the blue zone and you take damage. From there you loot weapons, ammo, sights, clothes etc as you gradually move closer and closer together until you, your partner (in duo mode), or your team (in 4 man team mode) are dead or become the last ones standing. And with plenty of room for experimentation and insane stunts along the way, it is loads of fun. "Hold up, that doesn't sound tactical at all!" I hear some of you think. And so far you are right, but there is an underlying layer of tactical gameplay in all of this. You are given a basic set of Arma style tools to work with, most notably a map that you can place markers on, and a compass with bearing numbers on the top of the screen. The game requires you to make important decisions. Where to go, when to fight, what to keep and what to leave. But it isn't really about what you have to work with, but how you use it. The game becomes tactical because of the lack of information and gear you are given. You don't have a fancy drone to see and mark all or hand picked camouflage. You don't have a real choice in weapons aside from deciding to replace a gun with one you found in a building or on a body (there is bullet drop by the way). Fear of the unknown can also play a role. And there are vehicles, C-130 airdrops and areas randomly marked for artillery barrages to throw a wrench your efforts or provide just what you need to make it. You have to think, plan and adapt if you are to make it anywhere close to the last man. But don't take too long, because the blue zone will soon overwhelm all but a tiny portion of the map. You can sneak and snipe but your ideal hiding spot will go away eventually, keeping games from slowing to eternal camping sessions and upping the tension. And there is tension. In one match I made it to the top 10 by sneaking alone. I only came across a shotgun and a pistol the entire time, so I decided to avoid fighting, especially at range. I was fortunate to find a suppressor to attach to the pistol. I found myself lying in a bush in a bowl-like valley. I would be completely exposed if I were to be discovered, and all around me were very well equipped players shooting it out from the ridgelines. As the numbers reduced to 3 including myself I picked one person off with several shots from my hiding spot 30 yards away, remaining undetected. The play area then reduced size again. I had to move. I was in a brief but exhilarating firefight halfway up a ridge. I was killed, but for me it is a shining example of the incredibly immersive and intense scenarios this game is capable of naturally producing. There are both dedicated third and first person game mode options as well. I love both, but for the sake of tactical realism first person only is the way to go. As for whether to go solo, duo or team, I prefer team for a Wildlands-style setup and the greatest chance for teamwork. In closing, I think that this game is a great mashup of genres and is worth a look, even if only on youtube. While it is not a hardcore tactical simulator it has the distilled systems found in Arma, the nice smooth controls of a modern shooter and the vehicle, weapon and gear options to allow for amazing creativity. The game is easy to learn and hard to master, and I feel that it has some of Ghost Recon's special sauce from both new and old titles. In terms of popularity alone this game will lead to more similar games to come. With millions of active players, and lots of online presence, I feel the game certainly has the attention of many developers who will want to expand the concepts PUBG brings. Or maybe someone will want to make the most of this momentum and expand an existing game. Perhaps a developer with an already successful franchise release known for small team based tactical gameplay, diverse maps and attention to authenticity where it matters. Now who could that be?

Cons Not enough cut scenes, poor voice acting, AI Civilians every freaking where and even when ###### got thick they would run toward gun fire or stay right there and cower. Me spawning a vehicle and not being able to find it in a dire situation (limited/no HUD). Being able to change your entire load out on the fly. That mechanic by itself makes the idea of a weapons crate in bases redundant. The release of pvp came awhile after the release of the game and to my disappointment it was a bit lackluster however I haven't sunk an incredible amount of time in it yet so maybe there's more to love that I'm not giving it credit for. However currently it just seems like a glorified squad death match to me where you hunt each other, however it was made clear that it wasn't meant to be this kind of game I believe a lot more could have been done. The objective based, team work oriented pvp in ghost recon future soldier in my eyes is the best. Thats without even mentioning the beautifully designed multiplayer maps. ~Just wanted to share

The Combat knife animation while it does look cool takes much longer to do and you still receive damage while in the animation. Which can leave you at a big disadvantage, you'll probably be downed in bad situations. The DLC is very difficult even on lower difficulty settings. I was being flanked, shot with arrows, and overcome by enemies quite often. Large groups of heavily armored enemies are the standard enemies you fight normally. On a higher difficulty this will definitely take you a longer time to complete. For me it took a day and a half just about with almost no breaks. The new enemy types can really challenge you . They can counter a lot of your equipment and gear whereas Santa Blanca would normally just fall victim to it . The Jungle environment really makes you feel like your in a predator movie and being hunted by something dangerous. The tone is much more serious and dark, which i absolutely love. This feels much more like what I expected from ghost recon Wildlands when it was announced at E3. Some people complained about the dlc not being big or long enough but honestly I played through this in a day and a half of straight mission after mission without side missions , gun collecting, or collecting files and on Regular mode to complete on any harder difficulty you would have a larger challenge.Kinda lame that it's segmented from the main game so you don't carry over your weapons and your character but honestly I just grabbed a different gun and pimped it out all the same . Sadly though the new guns aren't in the base game that's the biggest disappointment because there are some awesome guns isolated in the dlc .Lastly the terrain of your final mission is so awesome because it really gives you the lower ground in a very drawn out gun fight, that's going to make you really earn your victory and give you that great sense of accomplishment afterwards. Narco Road was tasteless and did in no way reflect an open world tactical shooter . It was about street racing and gangs essentially. This DLC is amazing and makes me forget the crap of Narco Road. Leave what you think about the fallen ghosts dlc below this.
