  1. Hey guys,

Any of you JO Tactical Elite play this? Team Element will be coming over sometime soon to play some OFP so if you guys want to hook up, let's gets some dates down. Maybe do a CTI together?

What about the Wargamers mod (WGL) - there was a thread I saw about this here at GR.net, we definitely want to get involved with this and anything else OFP.

    Rocky - you playing this?

Well hope to see some of you GR.net guys on the ofp server - I may pop in tonight (gmt) and see what's going on :)

Oh and we're at www.teamelement.org - leave a message if any of you want to hook up !

    Thx

    Jex - Team Element.

  2. I'm not quite suer how anyone cannot like this game LOL. This is simply the best FPS out there, even today. You'll not find more mods for any other game.

The controls are clunky to begin with, but after a while (and possibly some re-mapping), you get used to things and it works well. I'm actually pretty amazed they managed to pull it off, considering how complex this game is. As my friend says, it's GR on steroids.

It has drivable vehicles, decent damage modelling (ie you can knock out tyres, turrets, barrels, etc), it has real time light and shadows. OK the graphics may be dated, but back when it was made, how many PC's could process those huge landscapes?

Anyway Bah Humbug to graphics, they don't make a good game. This game has so much more over GR it is simply unfair to compare the two. GR is a great game, so is OFP. I think if you give it another go, and play with friends online using voice comms, you'll have a much better game.

Oh and there's CTI - we regularly play this mod as it involves capturing a whole island - it's a mini war in one, and with friends planning startegies and stuff, makes for some excellent gaming - especially when those pesky russian launch an attack on your base with 5 t-80's steaming in, and all you have is a LAW :)

  3. Soldner has 2 million square miles, demolishable buildings, over 60 (?) vehicles and 70 weapons plus the ability to totally mod your character to make him look like you want.

OK you need a 12ghz PC to run but... :)

Far Cry looks good with plenty of jungle and driveable vehicles too. The missions editor looks great and so does the physics engine.

  4. Yeah definitely reload it. There are 18 (i think) SP missions and then the addon packs Island Thunder and Desert Seige.

Add to this the Frostbite, HX series and Tactical Gamers mod then you have loads of maps and loads of missions.

One thing you'll find here or at TG (www.tacticalgamer.com) is that it is playing coop that is a lot of fun. Team work rules, even in TVT when it's played.

If you don't reload this game you will miss out on the game of the year and the great community that supports it.

  5. lol get back ter TG yer varmit! :)

OK that was what I was thinking lol but I didn't realise you could put in a negative value for the fog near distance which now makes a lot more sense. I will try that at home when I get back and thanks once again H.

As forr TS at work no way :(

    Sux don't it ;)

    thanks ! :)

  6. I'm trying to create a night map on embassy for a mission I'm making. I completely new to Igor so I'm a little stuck.

I have edited the .env file thruogh the Environment editor and ticked 'night' and also chosen a night sky - however when I get into the map I have the night sky but the actual map is not dark.

Is this because embassy simply does not have the textures for night time?

Also to save me work does anyone know where I can get a night time embassy map?

    Thanks in advance :)

    Jwex.

  7. I think people here are arguing two different points from what I can gather here.

The first point seems to be about the lone guy who goes to lengths to get into a position where he can see the enemy spawn and then start shooting everyone who comes out of it - probably sporting a support weapon I would hazard a guess at. This sort of player I would agree is hardly honourable.

The other point I see here is where the 'team' push forward and fight the battle, pushing the enemy back to their spawn point where they just hammer them. This is war and I suggest all you boys who can't handle an ass whooping leave the server for the men to play in. If you lost ground then the winning team should get the spoils...

    HOWEVER

There is a certain amount of battlefield honour imo and you shouldn't push the other team back so far that you are shooting them at spawn. Pull back a little to a good secure point so you give them a little room to manouevre and the chance to fight back - there is no honour in fighting people who can't fight back.

  8. After I played the SP missions of DS and GR I decided to try it online. I hated UBI becasue of all the kids. I now play regularly with people who take the game seriously and have done for the last 7-8 months, solid. I bought IT but never bothered playing it SP as I figured i'd prefer to play it online, which I have done. SP sucks - MP coop rules - especially when using TS.

  9. I'd need a better explanation than 'because it does' before I'll accept what you've said i'm afraid. Since all the server has to do is plot where it was fired from to where it lands and check if anything is in the way I find it surprising that it should cause any lag - i've never experienced this on the servers I play on.

You're not mistaking this with FPS (frames per second) are you? I.e. you screen 'slows down' when a nade goes off.

Lag is when your connection can't send/receive the data fast enough and has the effect that the guy you are shooting at is in fact 3 seconds 'in the future' to where you see him.

  10. After the article of the grafic settings i checked my framerate (thanks to the author btw): about 40-50. But still wondering is that fast or slow  ? Whats the average and minimal framerate to run GR fine?

    Thanks, blueRose_76

Ok this may seem like a stupid question but that article about graphics settings - a lot of the pictures look the same to me.

I can't make out any difference in the Character model, Resolution & bits and Character Smooting & Effects pictures.

Is it just me or do they look the same to everyone else?

  11. Too much???

That wouldn't even make a single chapter in a book lol.

Maybe I should'a done it over a few weeks in comic book format lol ;)

    Now there's an idea...

Any bidding artists wanna give us a war journal in comic form?

    that would rock!

  12. Set your guys up at the base of the hill, a little back so they can shoot guys at the top (remember the jeep as well comming from behind).

Now have 1 sniper on his own and charge up the hill (save the game before charging so you don't have to set your guys up at the bottom again and again).

Run your sniper up the right hand side of the hillslope/ramp and run him a little to the right at the top. Now you must position yourself so that you can see right to the top of the hill and bag him as he runs up.

I found it not too difficult to get up the hill and into position. It was after I shot that I began to die again and again as the tango's moved on me. I then got a break once and managed to hold off the onslaught.

Don't save it until after your clear up the top. I tried that once and saved it in a really bad position. You basically have to fight it out at the top before saving.

    Good luck?
