I am getting to ubi lobby and clicking on rooms to get in and it counts down like it's going to take and then i get this message, GhostRecon exe has stopped working and stops me right there. i have cable connection.
-
yes i just purchased a new system and installed the gr series and then 1.3 and 1.4 patches, that worked out fine, and now when i try to enter multyplayer i am getting this same message....
ghostrecon.exe has stopped working ....
I guess I am out of luck cause I have tried to go online to look for solutions for this and I just can’t understand what is written, to overwrite the ghostrecon by [Edited IAW Forum Rule 3.7 - we don't condone such things here] I just don't get this at all

I just wish i was playing a kick ass GR 2 with homies i have played GR 1 for years now! UBI has just spilt this community, with just not producing a GR 2 that just upgrades GR 1, to the level we had our hearts set on.But they couldn't even get GR2 to work for the PC and scrapped it to make GRAW
Papa, step back from the keyboard mate, it's clearly malfunctioning today.
I think that is what is really driving at this community to lash out, simply cause we have been let down, in the aspect of multiplayer we have nothing. I was so looking forward to this sequel.....thinking they got it right the first time they are just going to bring on something just that much better,,,,, you know. WELL RSE you guys really pulled off a winner with GR 1, hope one day you all bring us back that action just upgraded with nice effects and realism gritty and tough play we love.
-
Im with you, that RSE did drop the ball on [GR] sequel! It is just when Willie comes across with the aspect of playing a GR sequel for 10-15 hours or what ever time line he gives for the satisfaction of this sequel, this right there gives us a good idea of GRINS intentions to begain with, almost to the point where he is bashing his own, work, or atleast settling for something common play. Im someone who would want to be looked at as not complaining so much but just trying to set the record straight, after all it carries GHOST RECON title.i can understand the modding part, as to what we were used to with GR, and my words were not at those who complain about that, but at those who complain about grin,
i think when digitaly TC and friends have done BLACK and deleyte has done tank revisited, we can all say it is do-able to make something (don't forget the weapons mods like snowfella)
i know graw has its draw backs, and respect those who feel it is not their game, it is just that i can't stand grin bashing when they do tend to us when we send PM's or open questions
when they can,
-
I am sure some one at Grin can help with that Error.
Willie a little taken back by that comment, surely a game should not be a short term fix, I would like to see a game last at least a couple years, with added support and mode support.
Or have we been spoiled in the past and short lived games is where we are at, I thought that was the console side of gameing.??
a bit of both really, but it really depends on the gamer, the general game dont play the same game for 5 years, he usually(for sp games) plays his 10-15 hours of designated out-of-the-box hours and are quite happy with that for the money he spent(you have to take into consideration what else you could buy for 30-40 bucks which is frankly not very much in terms of entertainment). The Gr crowd (and hardcore sim crowds in general) are a bit special when it comes to the gaming industry as they tend to choose something and stick with it, whereas the average gamer goes through a couple of games a month.
Ofcourse it would be really great if people still played GRAW in five years and still liked it, and I wouldnt say that GRAW is to be considered a "short term fix production", however with the current state of the industry I wouldnt consider playing anything for 3-4 months to be a short fix, I would call that a pretty good run.
Sure there are games out there that people play for years and years on end, but they are far apart and often in the end supported by only a rather small and extremley dedicated group(by small im meaning a couple of thousand, compared to the million or so that originally bought the game). These are however often designed as PURE multiplayer games, such as Battlefield(that has no SP game at all worth mentioning, or World of warcraft which is a MMO that actually pay every month for and can thus basicly be supported by developers almost indefinatly until people stop playing it). AND then there are the "hardcore" gamers, like flight sim guys, GR guys etc etc, that found their first love many years ago and dont want to let go, which is ofcourse very understandable, nothing like a first love!
Im confident that people will continue to play GRAW for a long time, since I really think it is a great game, with or without its flaws, however im not gonna be disapointed if somehas has played the game for several months and then put it on the shelf, I would say the game has done its job very well for that person and money well spent(40-50 bucks gives you 4 theatre tickets? one nicer restaurant meal for 2 people?at most(ofcourse translated into swedish currency so the pricing can ofcourse be a bit diffrent for you other people
Im glad to have helped enterain someone for about 120 days on and off. However im certainly not quitting and neither is grin, and ofcourse im delighted for everyday that goes by and people still play!
I just wanted to thank the guy for playing the game, I was glad he enjoyed it and I hope that in the future we´ll be able to bring more gaming fun to him!

this is just plain arrogant and shameful to put are expectations of GR in a catagory of games that would be played for 10-15 hours to be satisfied with that. Oh man this is why this version if you want to call it of GR is the way it is, which i have a good feeling you know what that is by the simply fact that you all are having to constantly defend or try to justify or explain your title for the way it is or isn't performing, for the shear fact that you and your attitude torwards this game are totally erelevent to this communities wants and desires for a GR PC sequel. For me it's to the point that i have lost enterest in GR as a sequel, and im almost certain that the people that you will disscuss this with as of late will IMO not even be the peeps that where wanting an upgrade to begain with. How dissapointing! Rub it in why don't you. You are obviously not a original GR PC FAN im sure.
-
I still enjoy playing [GR] and 5yrs is no short term fix. Am i just an addict or does the playability just rock??
I,m right with you on that! I still am at it 5 years in. For me it is the competion and just the share grit of multiplayer that rocks. Imersion and playability are great when hooked up with a good server in a good game. I am 39 years old and it is something i look forward to playing in my spare time to relax....well lol, you know.

I wouldn't begin to dispute the sage comments set forth in this discussion, especially those regarding the maturation process of a classic like GR1, and the need for a similar process for GRAW....
But, I would offer one critical observation of this parallel to the developer group...
GR1 was playable, effective and stable from the first day I popped the CD in and installed it.
That bought the developers a world of time to make improvements, fix those nasty bugs, and concentrate on delivering new mods and features.
To date, that hasn't been the case with GRAW. Gamers by and large will be content with less content to start, if the platorm is robust and stable. Add to that the bonus of mod-ability and scripting, and the developers have even more time to deliver to an already largely happy fan-base.
As I've stated in another thread, UBI/GRIN seems to have failed to learn from the successes of the past.
First, UBI literally slapped the PC community in the face with the withdrawl of GR2... (sorry gang.... you just don't matter...) then, they forced what, IMHO opinion, is at best a very good beta version on the public, with full trumpets and fanfare, proclaiming it to be the rightful successor to the GR throne.
UBI/GRIN KNEW ahead of time that modability was a tremendous requirement for this game, and the amount of play centered around team coop/mission tournaments in GR1 would have been enough for a blind man to see what the fan base wanted. Multiple MP game types were also a requirement. A large number of the GR players got very used to those CTF, LMS, etc. MP styles of playing.
GRAW MP delivered a multiplayer game like BattleField2, only without unlimited respawns, big maps, vehicles, multi-level maps (sorry boys... stairs just don't cut it), smooth graphics, good performance.... I better stop... BF 2 is starting to sound good again...

And communications to the userbase is something of a joke.... the only news updates on the Ghostrecon.com are for the xbox 360, with no current news to speak of for the pc gang. I get more up to date intel on GRAW on THIS site, than I do on their own site.
I will commend some of the dev guys at GRIN for their participation in the forums on this site. It's a good gesture of faith, and my hat's off to you guys.
But again, I challenge you to listen to what the fan base is REALLY saying... sure there's a lot of requests for one game type or another, anti-cheat, etc... but at the end of the day, what's the point in adding this stuff if 80% of your potential customer base can't play the stinkin' game? In business speak, that's called developing to a niche market, and if you're gonna give up volume, you sure better beef up your margins...
And like always, nothing stays in a vacuum... if YOU don't make GRAW the game the public needs it to be, someone else will make one that is.... it might not have the Ghost Recon moniker, but at the end of the day, I'll bet most folks won't care one whit about that... if it gives them what they want, they'll buy it. And GRAW will just be one more piece of shelfware that people will buy on eBay in 5 years for a couple of bucks, when they have eventually upgraded their hardware to be able to run it.
The choice is up to you developers... as for me, my interest is already waning to the point that GR1 is looking mighty fine... and I can develop new content for that until my fingers fall off. At this point, GRAW is more or less a game I payed 50 bucks for that I'll probably pack up and put in the closet along with Wing Commander, Flight Simulator, Diablo, Crusader, and a host of others... the only real difference being that with those, I felt like I got more than my money's worth....
:whistle:I am just wondering why [GR] got so off track with what it was about, I figured why not go off of what the game produced for everyone that brought it to be, the Ghost Recon we love to play. I was for sure thinking that RSE would just go on what Ghost Recon is. That would provide us with the same just some tweaks, graphic wise, maybe some new effects, just an upgrade, with some new maps and such. Maybe there hands got tied, I don't know, but surely these guys know what we are missing. Espessially with Multiplayer being so much fun, with lastman, seige, solo, sharpshooter and all the modding. I still enjoy the competition online with [GR]. Respectfully Bill
-
Personally, I'd like to see RSE get another crack at it. After all they got
me hooked to this game in the first place. Nothing against GRiN.
MAN that would be so nice
-
I just really don't understand why this game didn't just stick to what made it so much fun to play? To me it's like everyone that had something to do with [GR] just went away, and now we have new devs making this series something that we wish we could play. Having to wait for new developments, and patches and such. The game play being the way it is, and lastman and such that kept this kickass game rolling in MP, just not there. In my mind im thinking how they could have just made this game alot better graphically and with some new ideas and such, just an upgrade you know, ......?

All valid points: but It has to be said ,the game engine is very good , the map/graphic detail
also very good, but,
the game has some flaws that should have been resolved with an earlier demo release ...say 4-8 weeks before release...
It's a step step BACKWARDS from GR1 !!! in the mutliplayer gameplay..
NO Last Man Standing......NO Team v Team LMS [ yes they may be added , but they should have been on the original release !!!!! NO QUESTION..
The CS style Buy or NOT to BUy crap !! who's brain wave was that ?? an ex -CS fan ??
The AA graphic issue is/was never an issue !!! it's part of the 'DESIL' Graphics engine implimentation. more of an issue !!! IF your ever lucky enough to go SLI or SLI + PPU [ageia] The frame rate /preformance is no better than a single GPU...... I KNOW cos I do run it both ways and SLI makes very little diffrence. PPU makes it slower !!! dam v1.0 Ageia drivers.
I pray a V1.05 or 1.1 UPDATE FIX comes SOON
p.s. I also want a Desert map and a tropical map

GR1 is a great game, sp and multiplayer! This is a flame nor a rant. Just an observation. When xbox got GR2, what did the community do? We DEMANDED GR released finished or not...
Now roll to present day... xbox version of GRAW was finished and the community spoke again... give us GRAW PC we don't care if it's finished or not. This time GRIN delivered. We got what we wanted. A playable, but not finished game. And now what are we doing? Complaining becaues we got what we wanted. Enjoy it, and help them make a better game out of it people. They are patching it, but you have to understand... it wasn't completed and they released it so we would have SOMETHING at least.
You complain and rant about your 50$. Well your 50$ is actually doing something. Supporting the development of a game. That is far better then buying something that is finished and will be shelved in a month because of no patching or no input. You can tell by the 1st patch that guess what? THEY ARE LISTENING to what needs fixed.
I am an MP player but you know what? I can understand why it wasn't finished 1st. It requires the MOST testing, to balance gameplay, experience, and netcode. They threw us a gametype to see how it would act in a real environment. With all of us testing it i would imagine in the next patch or 2 we are going to have a GREAT game.
You all forget how buggy GR1 was in demo and launch. Let me refresh you.
1) Servers crashed when over 12 people playing MP on the demo and 1st patch. GRAW is doing 25+ with no lag. Also did not work very good in NT based netcode/resources (2000/XP)over windows 98
2) in GR1 if you shot a sensor or claymore the game crashed. This was patched later.
3) m136 was an instant reload, back then i was the rocket man LOL
4) As a sniper you could switch to pistol and back and auto center your ret
Now for what never got patched in GR1
5) Edge glitching... GRAW made sure this wasn't possible
6) Tiptoeing impossible to do without being able to be hit in GRAW
7) Left Peeking. Impossible in GRAW due to view being centered. In GR1 it was over the left eye so when you peeked left less of you was visible and right = more of you sticking out.
8) Weapons would stick through corners and walls. GRIN again made sure this couldn't happen. weapon goes up till you move back
9) GR1 had an outrageous server requirement of 16mb card. (THAT WAS EXTREMELY HIGH BACK THEN) And never had dedicated servers (modders made reconlog and others)
Don't get me wrong GR1 was a great game, but only after numerous patches and fixes. How about we give GRAW that same chance? If 3 to 4 patches down the road it ain't a great game then complain until then... we have exactly what GR1 was, and what we wanted... an unfinished still developing by community input, but still playable game.
-
I understand your emotion, but you have to realize people really enjoyed playing original GR1! That should have set the tone for the sequel, this should be a no brainer in my mind. That being said, alot of change will occur in making a more developed GR so to speak, change is good. Honesty, and gut feeling is just as well important to us all in stating our opinions too. I personally have been waiting for just basically the same game play as with [GR] with some nice upgrades, with detailed maps, explosions, enviroment....you name it. You can only imagine what they could have done, just simple stuff to make this game rock even more so. The most important aspect of the GR title is multiplayer IMO, and this IMO is also lacking in this new title. I just feel that it would be a shame to let this title of [GR], fade into something that it is not, and that maybe some time in the near future, it can be up graded in that kickass gritty [GR] fashion. Much respect Wild Bill.I'm dismayed at how many are bashing GRAW for this or that. things change accept that. this game has a changed face so accept it.I'm under the impression that the anger in some posts isn't really angled at GRAW as so much the DEVS, GRIN. Why? They worked hard to build us a game that has a great storyline, great maps neat weapons under development by the US military as well as the uniforms.I spoke to a major who's special forces and we eventually spoke about GRAW and his eyes popped out almost and he told me that the ARMY times I think he said it was that did a review on GRAW and the review received awesome marks. This major was amazed at how GRAW even took the painstaking detail of getting the future ripstop uniforms right as well as the crosscom helmets.
So there's "issues" who cares? GRIN is the best and are currently in the office to do us up an update for GRAW. So you're system can't run GRAW, so upgrade. GRIN definately shot high in terms of specs to run GRAW but in comparison to GR1, GRAW smokes GR1
. but I'd have a hard time seeing how folks will bash GRIN who, have developed their own revolutionary game engine for us to play. but most of you realized that your PC doesn't have the juice which hit you like ->
and now you're mad. You'll just have to upgrade. I think that's what made the vast majority of you angry.Just some thoughts..
Peace out!

Ok being a GR1 player, i am looking here at a weapon that does not really impress me, I thought the weapons view would be top notch, by looking at some previous screens, i just thought it would look more realistic. I see tires popping off from the use of a pistol, I see when the enemy shoots the whole screen turns a bright redish orange letting you know what, that they are shooting at you? and an enemy ai laying in the street blinking his eyes, with no blood on or around him. I respect peoples judment and time and effort in making these games, but the direction is going torwards the younger crowd it seems, umm just want to let everyone know that i respect these threads and am just dissapointned in the simplicity that it would have taken to give us an up in coming sequel fm the game we call GR and enjoy. This upgrade is something i just don't see, i just see this game taking on new direction.Hey there first off im new to the boards here ill be stayin for a while i love the GRAW Demo i made a video review if you guys want to see it
cant wait for this game to come out.Link is up enjoy my review

I was wondering, will we be able to just use the sights like on Gr1 pc. When we had sniper, this was the view we got, the one from Bo's interview, how it zooms in using the scope. I didn't particularly like not seeing around while zooming in with a sniper rifle. I usually pick oicw which allowed you to also zoom but having the capbability to see all around you, not an enclosed scope. My question is will we be able to zoom like the regular riflemen in GR1, and have full view of the battle field? or will even using a SCAR without a scope, be an enclosed view like a scope that shuts out all other surroundings?1. You should not be able to shoot while running. I think this is being implemented, if so, no running and gunning.2. You should not be able to run with weapon in full zoom. Actually, I do not see how you can crawl and use a scope either. Walking and using a scoped view is fine. Can someone supply ann answer?
Question for HF - can the SCAR-H take an AK magazine? If not, can the SCAR-H mag take AK ammo? Looking at the rationale for picking up AK ammo.
I'm pretty sure that in the GR.net report Colin discusses that you are able to run in a couple stances, and it is always a "weapon lowered" run. I assume that if running is weapons down, you definitely can't run while using a scope.
I can confirm this, no shooting while running, no zooming while running and no zooming while moving in prone-stance. You learn really quick not to run around corners..

I just watched it. It has been on my hard drive for like 5 days now. All I can say, is I am glad im about to build my new computer. Pat yourself on the back GRIN, I am truely impressed. I cannot wait to play this game. Thank you so much for doing such a good job, and for listening and taking suggestions on improvements from GR fans. Thank you GRIN.

lol i suppose that was a pretty dumb question , but you know how it says who you eliminated, or who eliminates you in the game in GR1, I was just wondering if it would be the same in Graw?
-
Will we be getting notifications of kills, or when we get killed, like in Gr1 pc. In GR1 you know how it lets you know who you eliminated, or who eliminates you.

vs.
Please learn to use the search option people! These answers you can find at the topic 'Realistic Death animations? Blood?, What is your opinion on those two?'This has me wondering if there is going to be the level of grit and gore that made this title what it is, the game we enjoy. I'm concerned if they are going to scale back on this aspect of the game to enjoy more sales revenue. The Gore level in GRAW will be similar to GR1.It will have a Teen rating though.
Ur welcomeTeen rating implies:No gore or pools of blood siping from twitching bodies that sizzel from grenade explosion. For me it is good not to see that in a game. Nothing worse than real war let me tell you.
Will you have death animations and blood impacts - yes.

BTW, how 'Mature' was GR1? Mature rated games can contain "content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content, and/or strong language". While 'Teen' rated games "have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood and/or infrequent use of strong language".
I don't really think the Gore in GR1 was that huge and splashy dispite the fact it was rated Mature. Maybe the rating levels are changed in these few years but to me the Teen rating discription suits GR1 just as well or maybe even more than the mature rating. Unless you can give me some real gore-effects which GR1 has, that I am overlooking. To my opinion the game didn't/doesn't need such a high Gore-level. The gameplay and realism made it so succesfull and satisfying to play as it is. On that behalf I totally believe BoGRIN on his words, "nothing worse than real war let me tell you".

oops didn't know about search.... sorry this has been covered before,my bad
-
I don't really care what rating the game is, I think It's childish to moan over such a irrelevant things.
I am a Ghost recon pc player, and i for one had no intention of sounding negative, or that i am moaning and groaning bout this topic. I was just wondering if this teen rating would change the amount or quality of action in this sequel, I just think teen rating sounds like they would naturally be down scaling the responses to kills and wounds do to the rating from mature to teen, or else they would just have left it as mature, in my opinion.
-
This has me wondering if there is going to be the level of grit and gore that made this title what it is, the game we enjoy. I'm concerned if they are going to scale back on this aspect of the game to enjoy more sales revenue.

This sounds very enteresting, I hope GRIN was able to pull this off to look realistic and such. While playing GR1 I never really stopped to think about not having weapons view or, thinking that i am a floating camera, cause of intense gameplay more than likely. However when just sitting and thinking about this game, it just seems right to have weapons view and body in one. This will definatlely be something to look forward to seeing.great my post got hijacked!
all I wanted from Bo was about the flipping weapon view like those in SC:CHAOS THEORY.
Bo pls answer that question

Hi
some of the regulars said it so I thought that was it.
The thing is there is no OTS view in GRAW PC. The PC version is very different in the way you play so anything in camera and controls from the 360 is not relevant. We chose to have a Person Mode (which is a realistic view with you body showing if you look down on it or if it moves in front of you, like arms, and you see your gun and your hands/arms holding it) so FPS with weapon and body in one.
-
Yes i was just wondering if GRAW will have sensors, I know alot of us did not use them at first in MP, but as time went on we all became slaves to them once they where but into gameplay, at least i felt this way trying to keep up with you all, I suppose as long as we all have them, or don't have them it would be ok. Most of my thoughts tell me just to get rid of them.

I can't believe I'm still playing crappy GR1 and still loving every minute of it.

Thank you wombat,
I would like to share this just in case anyone else gets in to a jam such as i did. I just purchased a new rig,
windows vista home premium 6.0

memory 2 gigs ram

Well i have been enjoying Ghost Recon multiplayer for some time now and have really had no problems getting online in the past with my what is now broke down computer using windows xp. With this new system, Vista gave me some grief, so i just would like to pass along what got me online again using a new system with Vista. After installing the game right click on your desktop icon of the GhostRecon symbol, go to properties, then to compatability and select Windows xp serv. pac 2. In the same window click run in administrater mode, and apply and then OK . I did this in both the GhostRecon icon as well as the UBI icon on the desk top. After that was done i went to UBI GhostRecon lobby, I clicked on GhostRecon to get the rooms to appear, once there all showing click on lobby settings, then GhostRecon tab, then click on detect then auto dectect and check C: drive that should be the only one checked then apply and ok. This is what got me back online. Thanks to UBI support and wombat for there time. Cheers
