  1. I thought this guy over on the ubisoft fourms summed it up well with this...

List your reasons for NOT preordering/buying GRFS. DO NOT post if you are planning to buy the game. ONLY list your reasons for not getting the game. THOSE ARE the rules for this topic. If you wish to state reasons why you WILL be buying the game, then please make another topic. This topic is only for reasons why YOU will not be getting GRFS. (Moderators.....please help keep this topic clean and on topic)

My list of reasons for not pre-ordering/buying GRFS:

    1. No more LMS(last man standing). Mandatory respawns. As a host, I require the ability to enable/disable respawns for clan practices/matches.

    2. No gametype editor. Not a major issue, but being able to alter gametypes goes a very long way towards long term playability.

    3. Cloak is mandatory. As a host I require that there be an option to disable this feature from being used in a clan practice/match.

    4. Unable to disable regenerating health as host. As a host I require that bullet/frag damage stay on the player. Regenerating health means a player can run and hide, thus regenerating their health back to maximum. That is unacceptable as a host of Clan practice/matches.

    5. Not being able to enable/disable specific weapons/equipment as a host of a room. As a host, I require the ability to restrict the use of explosives, and any type of launchers. Our clan practices/matches with bullets only, no booms. That is our way.

    6. Not being able to restrict use of drones as a host of a room. I require the ability to disable the UAV and any such method of player detection for use in Clan practices/mathces.

    7. This ties into all the above....... As host of a room, I require the ability, as in previous Ghost Recon's, to configure match parameters. I require this in order to host Clan practices/matches. Weapons allowed, spawns or no spawns, HUD, UAV, explosives, cloaking, game time, etc.

    8. Not being able to enable/disable radar/minimap for a room I am hosting. As a host, I require the ability to disable any form of player detection so as to increase the difficulty of a match. I play competitive matches. I require the ability as a host to restrict such forms of player detection. Line of sight, and other team mates identifying targets visually is all we require.

    9. Not being able to change the rate of fire of my weapon in a match. Having to change out an entire trigger in order to change my rate of fire, outside of a match, is unacceptable. It has been an option since the very FIRST Ghost Recon, and has remained an option through GRAW 2. I require the ability to change my rate of fire on weapons that have selectable fire modes on the fly. Soldiers of today have this ability, why don't soldiers of the future have this ability as well?

    10. My final reason is that Redstorm's name is tied to this game, and I am having to list the above 9 reasons why I will not be buying Ghost Recon. Redstorm has done well on all previous Ghost Recon's with giving us players the options and tools to model and configure our private matches to suit our play styles. Now we either play Ubi/Redstorm's way or not play at all. That is not good game development. That is purely ego driven. As as company, it is poor marketing as it will alienate a large majority of the entire Ghost Recon fan base. The players who have been around for YEARS and have continued to support the series are being kicked to the curb with all these mandatory features. All we really ask for is OPTIONS!!!! We've asked for them for years. Go back and read my prior posts/topics. I've talked about it numerous times on these forums. Now, Ubi/Redstorm decides to remove those options. I am not alone on this. Lots and lots of players want options.

If you want my money, and the money of my other clan members, then we require options as private match hosts to configure our matches as we see fit. It's not a lot to ask for. The options have been in place since the beginning of the Ghost Recon series. There is no good reason why they shouldn't be in GRFS.

If/when I see details that these options will be patched into the game after release, I will then spend 60 dollars and purchase the game. I will also then encourage all my clan members to do the same. If not, well then this will be the first GR that I refuse to buy. I've bought them all since the first GR.

  2. I played Ghost Recon when it launched on Xbox LIVE (When Xbox LIVE launced back in 2002, I think) I loved GR and GRIT

Our clan played regularly almost every evening, and we had clan matches a couple of nights a weeks. With each release of GR after Ghost Recon Island Thunder (GRIT)

Ubisoft has continued to water down the original Tom Clancy Ghost Recon formula, to where it is now unrecognizable in most respects to what I loved in a game.

I'd love Ubisoft to do an HD remake with a new engine of the original GR and GRIT.

This game does push teamwork, but the game mechanics of it being in 3rd person, being able to look around a corner and seeing fully around it without exposing any part of your body...? And other issues.

When we played GR back in the day it was Team Siege with no respawns, and it was slow and methodical. I wish they would have an option for Team Siege in this new title, with no respawns, and force a First Person view, with lean and peak...

I can't believe the day has arrived where I won't be eagerly anticipating a Ghost Recon release, and even preordering it. Sad days. I hope reviews and further play of the demo/beta change my mind... but I doubt it.

  3. For me the map editor in Far Cry 2, was better than the game. It is the way that map editors should be done... excellent A+.

The game (multiplayer) not so much...

Very good map editors for consoles can be done right and Ubisoft has proven it with Far Cry 2.

  4. Well I've learned some good stuff on these forums today... :(

    Place, location, position.

Common in English from about 1640-1740. From Latin ubi, "where".

And this from someones sig... Con72's maybe...

Remember, you can't spell Dubious without UBI.

You know this wouldn't be that bad, but this isn't a first time occurence for Ubisoft. It is starting to seem like the status quo, and not only is Ubi guilty of it, but MS has dropped the ball like this before on DLC dates, emailing out PR and the PR department not being in sync with the actualities of what is going on.

Makes your company look inept. Maybe only the Ghost Recon hardcore will notice this, but it will filter down into the general public, via word of mouth.

  5. According to these postings over on the ubi forums... official GRAW2 DLC emails have been sent out.

The DLC is available now... no its not... yes it is...

Its 400 pts, no its 800 pts, no its 400 pts.

There is a DLC video... no there isn't a video...

Can someone clear this all up?

[Merged with the existing thread, Please check forums before posting]

  6. I did like the aspect of civilians in some of the maps in the original GR, and that you failed for shooting a civilian. I think most any next gen FPS has NO civilians. I think there should be civilians more in games that you should have to contend with.

  7. I played the COD4 beta and IMO it is Halo with 21st century weapons. It is fun, but it is strictly run and gun. I'm with Max419. I've been having fun on H3 but always go back to GR. This map pack will breath new life into the game. And I'm eagerly awaiting a demo for AA.

The game is only run and gun on Team Deathmatch etc.....if you played the Beta and did not play Search and Destroy (no respawns) you would not know that this game is tactical and as slow or as fast paced as you make it. GR would be my game of choice also, but lets face it the slow frame rate and choppy graphics are a little behind these new titles.

I'm a big big fan of Ghost Recon, and have played it on Xbox since GR and GRIT. I think GRAW has gotten away from the "better" formula. I like the GRAW series, but prefer the "feel" of GR and GRIT. Seeing the new "old" maps is wonderful. On to the COD4, I'm more hyped about this game than any game coming out this year.

The Beta was all I played, while it was available. Team Deathmatch... yeah same old run and gun like Halo3 or any other twitch fest shooters on Xbox360. Search and Destroy, no respawns is where its at. The rounds were only 5 mins, but they seemed much longer. This game blew me away. I wasn't expecting much, after being heavily dissappointed in COD2 and COD3's multiplayer. If you think the COD4's multiplayer will be like COD2 or COD3's you are sorely mistaken. The lobbies are very functional now, and it plays online, as smooth as butter. No Respawns... yep COD4 is going to rock!

  8. No news on this game is bad news... I'm afraid... just like movies, that have no reviews out, before it hits theaters. Its hitting during the busiest game release time 360 has seen to date. It will get lost to the Halo3/COD4/HL2-TeamFortress crowd, unless they start putting a lot of PR/Marketing buzz behind it and it gets above average reviews. Other wise it will only cater to a small segment of the Clancy GR crowd. I know my clan Old School doesn't even really have it on their radar at all. Halo3 & COD4 seem to be the biggies for us.

I think RedStorm/Ubisoft is missing out not putting out some free buzz, with bloggers, communities and such...

I mean c'mon, the game comes out in a couple weeks and we have 1 preview from IGN, and thats it? Did I miss some other previews?

  9. the 4 xbox maps are great selections.....some of my favorites.....(though i still miss bunker hill)...

thanks for the heads up and thanks to the graw team for the content.

That still leaves the PS3 version with 7 more maps doesn't it? DLC throwback map pack #3 coming too, I wonder?

Similar to the RB6 Vegas PS3 release then making the DLC free & matching the DLC to make the 360 & PS3 versions equals.

  10. http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/14227

I've always been a fan of the FPS look from the [GR] and GRIT.

This looks like a good way of showing lean and peak. I'm not sure how it would be in actual gameplay, but the video looks pretty convincing. Sharp looking game... but I'll take/keep with my 360. I think Ubisoft could learn from this concept. I actually really like the cover system in RB6 Vegas, compared to GOW. But this has me thinking that Killzone, may have found a better way to do it.

    What do you think?

  11. New Rainbow Six game in the works?

Posted in Rumors, Games, Xbox 360 by Ross Hayward on August 4th, 2007 at 1:39

It seems that if Ubisoft were waiting until Leipzig to officially say anything, Play could have blown the lid on anything secret that the developer may have had up their sleeve, as a new listing for a Xbox 360 title lists none other than Rainbow Six: Vegas Bishop.

What the hell that is no-one currently knows, however it is worth pointing out that should this ever come to fruition, it is on the market for a lesser sum than full retail games. This immediately suggests that this is more of an add-on to the current Vegas game available now as opposed to a direct sequel to the game.

With Vegas in the title, one might simply assume that it continues the story where the original so disappointingly left gamers, with a “To be Continued†screen. The ultimate in lame, but is this where the new title may take us? Back to the desert where Vegas started?

That, or Play have got it wrong and the listing shouldn’t be there. Let’s hope it’s the former, since Vegas was a damn good game. If this is true, expect to see the game ship on the 26th October here in Europe.

  12. I'm interested in knowing how much communication/interaction there is between the GR teams and RB6 teams?

Do you share knowledge, ideas, programming shortcuts, assets, etc.

I think that both franchises offer some great gameplay & features and think that things could be borrowed from both to improve both. The PEC from RB6Vegas, to map you face on your character, implemented in GRAW.

The ability to automatically switch objectives (Defense/offense) sides as an option in RB6Vegas, the GR series has had this for a long time, and its a hassle a lot of the time manually switching sides over in RB6Vegas.

    Keep up the good work.

RB6 and GRAW still offers some of the best LIVE lobby features found on 360.

  13. I read that the PS3 version of GRAW2 is pretty close to release. When RB6 Vegas hit the PS3, the red & black pack for 360 where out, and one of them was made free, and the $10 one, became free. Kind of the philosphy, if its free on one system it will be free on the other system mentaility.

Here is the cut and paste from over in the PS3 section...

The new version will also feature 14 additional maps (bringing the grand total to 32), 32 new "adversarial multiplayer maps"

I'm just wondering with the 360 version of the DLC called DLC pack 1, that we will get another pack when the PS3 version hits the shelves or soon after?

  14. Its that time of year again... and we are gearing up for the Fall. Old School is recruiting again...

See above 1st post for info.

With all the games... Halo3, COD4 etc. we are looking for some fresh faces.

We will continue to have a GRAW team as well as a Halo3 team and we are always playing different sports leagues.

We always have some kind of OS event going on, whether it is competing on digitalcombat in GRAW, internal leagues, with Madden, MLB, NBA, Poker etc. Come check us out.

  15. Well now it is out on PS3, and the two packs for the 360 version are now free...

With its cliff hanger ending will Ubi release another pack that will finish the story, give us expanded acheivements, armour, maps, camo, etc?

Or will Ubi announce a new Rainbow Six that will move the story along and be a follow up to Vegas, and be a sequel and tie up the storyline?

I thought RB6Vegas was a phenomenal game and with both the red & black packs now being free have breathed new life into the game for me on LIVE.

The single player campaign was phenomenal too, right up there with COD2. Too bad it left us with a cliffhanger ending.

    What are your thoughts?

Also add some features... like a compass! Also if you can heal your teammates, why can't they heal you?

Only problem I see right away, is its scheduled for September during Halo3, and hasn't been mentioned at all till now, so with so little time till release, are they not hyping it for a reason? Hopefully not shovelware. The other thing that is interesting is its first person only view.

    America's Army Invades Xbox 360

Red Storm brings the next installment of the Army's official videogame exclusively to 360.

    by Hilary Goldstein

June 11, 2007 - Master Chief has some competition in the form of true blue U.S. soldiers. Red Storm, the team behind Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2, is set to bring America's Army: True Soldiers exclusively to Xbox 360 this September. True Soldiers, officially sponsored by the U.S. Army, brings the popular series to the next-generation of consoles.

True Soldiers runs on the GRAW 2 engine and features a number of improvements on previous America's Army titles. You'll be able to build your soldier in single-player, choosing one of five roles (Rifleman, Grenadier, Automatic Rifleman and Sniper). You can then take those skills and bring the heat online in any of eight maps developed by Red Storm under the guidance of the U.S. Army. A reward system for honorable actions is also in place with the Play-Lead-Recruit feature, to encourage gamers to act like real soldiers. Add to this the latest in high-tech equipment and weaponry and you have the most authentic Army experience a civilian could imagine.

We spoke with Randy Greenback, Creative Director on America's Army: True Soldiers, about Red Storm's latest military assignment. Greenback disclosed considerable intel on True Soldiers, including adversarial multiplayer details and 16-player online co-op. Yes, you read that right. At attention, soldier! Here's everything you need to know about America's Army.

IGN: Why make the next America's Army game exclusive to Xbox 360?

Randy Greenback: There were a couple key factors that led us to the decision to go out on the Xbox 360. First and foremost our experience level on the 360 is much higher, having gone through the development of GRAW and GRAW2 multiplayer. The second factor is that the installed base is much larger, which translates to a greater opportunity for a wider audience to experience the game.

IGN: What refinements are being made to the gameplay in relation to America's Army: Rise of a Soldier?

Greenback: Team play is definitely going to be the focus of the title! Players will be rewarded and perform more effectively if they play together as a Fire-Team, practicing and developing their own SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures) for any given situation. Multiplayer games are going to come down to what team has employed the best overall team strategies over the course of a match.

AA: TS tracks what players are on each Fire-Team and encourages them to work together with their specific team members. Every Fire-Team has a team leader and the Alpha Team Leader is the Squad Leader. Squad Leaders play an important part in the battle, passing orders to the Fire-Team Leaders which in turn then communicate down to their teams. Squad Leaders can turn a losing situation into a victory by calling in well-timed and accurate Artillery Strikes on enemy locations. Once the smoke clears, it is up to them to work with the other Fire-Teams to come up with a plan of attack to push the enemy back to their base.

IGN: How will this be different from the experience of playing Ghost Recon?

Greenback: First off the First Person View will add more immersion to the game and allows us to highlight our new weapons models and iron sights. Aiming and shooting will be more realistic, in-line with what players expect from an officially licensed Army game. AA: TS also features a more methodical style of gameplay and will reward teamwork over running and gunning as a lone soldier. We chose not to include any solo multiplayer gameplay modes and as a whole tried to focus only on gametypes that were tailored for team play.

IGN: Will the single-player have gamers facing realistic situations based on the current war in Iraq or are you staying clear of this?

Greenback: We are steering clear of any current Iraq situations as well as any other real-world scenarios.

  17. I went Wednesday, no game, got a $20 gift card no questions asked. They said come back tommorow. (I ended up getting it actually Wednesday at EB Games) I got there Thursday morning when they opened. No game, I got another gift card for $20, and this time they asked for my name/add/phone. But I came away with (2) $20 gift cards. :)

This was in St. Louis, at Brentwood Circuit City.

With them taking a loss at $49.99 and all those gift cards, this one really cost Circuit City some dough I'm guessing.
