  1. That makes no sense, if you have a PPU, you can make a hole in a wall and go through it, if you don't, you cannot see it or go through it, that's like an alternate universe. If an environment is destructible, you can destroy it and see the effect with current hardware, like in current games, with the limited ability of hardware to render it. What the PPU does is fuly render the particles produced by the effect into a fully realistic effect, where current hardware makes temorary pxilated effects that disappear. I think it is in the degree of the rendering, if a hole can be made, you will see a hole.

I probably don't fully understand AGEIA physX technology but anyway i just presumed the new technology means if you make a hole in the wall as you said...everyone will see the hole and go through it server side? we still have the havok phisycs to see that, but someone with the AGEIA physX hardware and software in there computer will see the damage fx particle fx etc better more realistic? I guess like battlefield 2 for example, someone with top end hardware can turn on all in game settings to the highest possible making the games graphics look totally awesome but someone with low/mid end pc will turn all high settings off and not having all the special fx but anyone can play server side regardless. But i guess like everyone else we don't fully understand how gameplay will be with AGEIA physX technology.
  2. Have you tried the result of putting 2 Gb ram in the other rig?

No not tried 2GByte in other rig because i sold a GByte to my bro inlaw along with some other hardware, it was just to say in answer to KRP 56 post that 1GB of RAM is not allways enough for todays games, even with top end pc hardware, i can turn all settings to the max in Battlefield 2 and BF2 SF: it looks awesome but with only 1GByte it stutters and lags server side and single player i have also read the same with the likes of F.E.A.R C.O.D 2 and they are new games.
  3. Whenever whatever. This is how i think it will pan out? Splinter Cell 4 will be first out so i'll buy the game and play, then sometime in the not so distant future maybe be able to buy GR:AW and then later in the year (whatever year that may be) i'll buy RvS6 Lockdown followed by S.T.A.L.K.E.R shadow of chernobyl

  4. I'm thinking i might need another gig of ram for the newer games comming out in March

Everything I've read seems to say that 1GB of RAM is enough for todays games and that going to 2GB would only make a very small improvement but may speed up game load times pretty well.

Depends on the game actually, i have tested battlefield 2 with 1GByte of RAM and 2GByte of RAM and 2GByte makes BF2 so much better to play allround, not just loading times. Example below with pc setup.

With this setup BF2 has playable framerates and is very smooth and all in game settings are high no AA: with 1024 x 768 60hz, overall great play.

    win xp pro (sp2)

    Via K8T800Pro

    4000+ san diego 2400MHZ

    2GByte TwinX XLPro 400MHZ 2.3.2.5 2T dual channel

    6800GT AGP 8X 350/1000

    S-ata 36GB 10k rpm hdd

    Audigy 2zs

    Tagan 480W black series PSU

    Viewsonic VP171b 60hz DVI-D :D

But on the other hand with this setup it's totally different. With the below setup i can only select medium in game settings no AA: 1024 x 768 60hz, game play is ok.

no where near as good as above. Totally lags at 1280 x 1024 60hz.

    Win xp pro (sp2)

    Asus A8N-Premium Nforce4

    4000+ san diego 2400MHZ

    1GByte TwinX XL PRO 400MHZ 2.3.2.5 1T dual channel

    Sapphire X1800XT 512MB 625/1500

    S-ata 36GB 10k rpm hdd

    Audigy 2zs

    Tagan 530W PSU easycon series

    Viewsonic VP171b 60hz DVI-D :(

  5. Here in the UK it's amazing how many top end ATI & Nvidia graphics cards are selling, there in stock and then they are out of stock, i don't beleive that folk are buying these gfx cards to watch dvd's or look at the internet no they are for pc gamers, so the pc gamer is not on the decline at all. It's probably more to do with the fact that maybe game developers and publishers see the console market as a more lucrative deal [£ & $]? If anything it's the game companys trying to move people over to the console platform, but i think pc gaming is getting better and it has a long future.

  6. I don't know where those screen shots came from but if they are official releases there is no way they would take a 'low setting' shot. If anything they usually try to get an unrealistically high spec pc to take a shot from.

When WK came back from Germany, he said that the graphics was pretty good. As far as I remember, he said that the only thing he did not like about the visuals was -- the light seemed to wash out the visuals somewhat and needed to be toned down. Maybe, he can shed some 'light' on this.

Also, the graphics in the leaked video looked impressive, though the screen was small. From this, I conclude that the visuals will be impressive. I just wonder why less impressive screens are released, that create doubts in the minds of people. There must be a reason, I just don't know it and hope I get the answer.

("The light seemed to wash out the visuals somewhat and needed to be toned down"). That sounds like High Dynamic Range Lighting, to be honest with you i personally don't like the somewhat over BLOOM fx Half Life 2's Lost Coast is an example of this washed visuals look in game, to me it's somewhat distracting when gaming, a nice fx in some areas of the map. But i guess we'll be able to turn off hdr fx in game anyway.
  7. Iv'e just played a few levels of splinter cell chaos theory on a X1800XT 512MB gfx card the graphics detail look absolutely superb, i hope GR:AW can look as good as this game. Battlefield 2 and SF: graphics detail look awesome too but plays awfull with high settings and that's because you need 2GByte of RAM to play smoothly when you crank up the settings and i have tested BF2 with 2GByte of RAM. I seriously hope GR:AW does not need to have 2GByte of system RAM to be able to play smoothly on all high in game video settings etc, that would let me down big time, so i'm hoping GRIN code the game very well.

  8. BF2 is great, for me it's an all out chaotic battle, makes a change from stealth tactics it's a good allrounder with the use of vehicles as well, for me personally i think it's one of the best modern military first person shooters.

  9. Picked up a copy of BF2 Special Forces on saturday installed without a glitch, it plays superb. I even installed the expansion with norton AV and firewall totally active along with loads of background stuff going on...lol. I have never really experienced major problems with BF2, only time was when i overclocked my rig, and testing a beta bios oops bsod, lol.Single player is great so is server side, occasional lag and stutter but that happens with most games i have played online and single player.

  10. in the chopper shot the buildings only look modelled so far out, it looks to me like the rest might be the edge of the map

That's exactly what it looks like, but the modeled portion looks to be plenty big, and that "background" has more depth to it than any background I've seen in a game. I'm glad you pointed the background out; it's just one more thing to admire.

That screenie is the best i have seen to date, i bet you that screenshot has been snapped on one top end rig if not SLI or crossfire.
  11. Yeah, if you care enough and have money, your good to go.

Hardware prices going up to much if you ask me, too much crap out and games that dont take advantage of it. :P going off topic for a bit I have a tip, if you get another card dont buy from Sapphire video card.

If you dont want a straight forward approach you could try drivers and stuff some more. I remember alot of people having to use the BF2 provided drivers?

    " =warcloud= to Foxtrot23 . . come in Foxtrot23 . . what's the word with sapphire co . . . over.
