  1. This scope also has the advantage of 4 inches of eye relief. The ACOG has fairly short eye relief, which can lead to cuts and bruises around the eye in a heated firefight.
  2. The more I think about it, the sniper class in GR should have been a designated marksman class from the get-go. Snipers are usually not supposed to engage targets closer than 300 m, ruling out nearly every shot in GR. PS- Will the grenadier character have a ranged sight Like Hana JP's GL reticules?
  3. Actually, most sources I've read for scope use dictate that both eyes be kept open, so blacking out everything but the scope view wouldn't necessarily be realistic. That goes for 10x sniper scopes as well as the 1x reflex/red-dots.
  4. I was playing SP assassination the industrial map, with fog/farplane pushed back, which hasn't given me lag problems before except for rain maps. I get to the top of the builing in the NE corner of the map and start laying down MM1 grenades along the western treeline. Around the same time as (a lot of) return fire started coming in, the game got choppy as hell, about 2-3 fps. It was practicaly like playing a turn-based shooter! What gives? Did my bombardment kick all the strolling enemy into a more processor-hungry attack setting?
  5. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2003/10.../215399-cp.html I just saw this article and hope the backlash doesn't cause our government to pull troops from the effort in Afghanistan. I'm glad to see our forces performing a proper job there (a real military operation for real humanitarian purposes) and it's a job that needs to be finished. It should have been finished before Iraq, but that's another matter. With any luck, this may encourage our government to take the offensive and root out the remaining Taliban and their provincial warlord sympathizers, rather than waiting for them to creep back to Kabul. (Central Kabul is just about the only part of the country that has been decidely liberated and secured; the rest is run by warlords paid and armed to fight the Taliban, who could now just as easily be paid and armed to fight with the Taliban. It's the same mistake made in the 80's all over again ).
  6. It seems like there was an unfortunate compromise in gr where all riflemen could carry an m203, but not enough ammo to be a dedicated grenadier. In the field, when you see a soldier with the 203 they usually carry 12-24 grenades on a load-bearing vest. Of course, it would be unbalanced to have a three-man team with 60-odd grenades, but maybe there should be a grenadier class (2 men on the roster, like support) with some handicap to offset their grenade load (5-6 mags for the M16, or reduced mobility). And for god's sake, use a ranged sight like Hana JP's excellent "=GRHQ= GL Reticules" mod. I know, I can do all this by myself in notepad, but I like to see Redstorm doing things right by themselves.

Just what is that supposed to mean? Hope you're not not ragging on modders or Canadians, both have a special place in my heart.
  8. From what I've read about the FNC, there's nothing much to recomend it over more common 5.56 designs. Weight, handling, accuracy, etc. are all supposed to be okay, but not as good as AR-15, HK, Sig, etc. And you'd probably spend more than you should to obtain such a relatively uncommon (in the US) weapon.

Stubborn Canuck pride. And full auto. And sweet custom reticles for the ELCAN sight. Mostly just stubborn Canuck pride though.
  10. Both are terrible on the move, so if it was a close range encounter it would be a pistol duel or a 'nade-fest, which is a crap shoot. Long-range, sniper takes it; even with single-point stats the sniper can get a first-shot kill no problem, while a support usually advertises his position for a few seconds before landing a hit.
  11. Well, there's wounded and then there's wounded. I would feel a hell of a lot more confident with a 5.56 weapon that will "wound" clean through the torso than a 9mm that has a hard time getting through a winter jacket.
  12. After playing this mod I can't go back to the standard 5.56 weapons. I've been spoiled by bullets that actually drop their targets when they hit. Thanks for the real man's guns, Thumper.
  13. Henzholdt (sp?) makes a nv scope that attaches to the G36's carrying handle and places a periscope in front of the objective lens of the standard sight. This is probably what's in the pic.
  14. pcgamer.com has a lot of demos to download, but you have to use a Gigex downloader. I've downloaded Splinter Cell and America's Army (early version) using this downloader and neither worked properly, though this may not be the fault of Gigex.
  15. "When Trumpets Fade" Little-known flick about Americans in late WWII (trying to break into Germany, I think). Very gritty, darker than SPR. Lots of people complain that it's anti-war or dishonours veterans because it makes the violence seem horrific and pointless. Just seemed like a fair portrayal of hell on earth to me; how else would you describe 100's of young men literally blown to pieces by 88's? Ah, the old lie, dulce et decorum est....
  16. MG3, baby. It boggles my mind that the US military agonized for decades trying to get a decent weapon out of the disaster that was every M60 before the E4, considering they could have just copied the MG42 and had one of the world's best and most battle-proven MG's (still true today). Considering how long the 60 has been in service, this represents an even greater act of stubborness than the MoD's Enfield fiasco.
  17. A quarter to a third of Americans are significantly overweight, and Congress thought the most dangerous thing about fries was their Frenchness. Priorities, people, priorities....

    Fallout Tactics

Anyone here love Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel as much as I do? That game was, and is, the shiznit. Any game that can combine real-time squad tactics and VD jokes is worth my money. And to all the people who say the culture of the Brotherhood is too "nazi-esque", that's because it's based on the same culture the Nazis stole all their best moves from- the Romans.
  20. I think someone has to give props to Redneck Rampage and Blood. They introduced the use of chickens with dynamite enemas and Chris Farley movie quotes to the fps genre. And to Shadow Warrior for getting away with having more racial stereotyping than Custer's Revenge. Collectively, they had a hand in the sillying of FPS gaming.
  21. SICK SICK SICK SICK!!!!!! No, really, that was funny as hell, and the rest of Landover Baptist is even better. Lighten up! How uptight does someone have to be to not see that this is satire? It's like people going apoplectic because they read an Onion article without noticing it's fake. Check out somethingawful.com for really tasteless humour, to laugh if you dig it or feel righteously indignant if you don't.
  22. The AUG wasn't created by a "bullpup wave", it was created by Steyr being ahead of the times and damned good at it. Tht AUG is nearly 30 years old already, so no more talk of being unproven or newfangled. And if anyone wonders if a plastic gun with an optical sight can be trusted to be durable, remember that it's been issued to an army full of Australians without much incident. If being field tested in Oz isn't a sure way to prove toughness, I don't know what is

I made an increased visibility mod for FB, just some farplane and maxspot adjustments (400 visible distance, 200 AI spotting distance). E-mailed it to Rocky a couple days ago, see if it goes anywhere.
