But I think Grin brought more realism with the physics, Geez [GR] doesn't even have physics. If I shoot an entire magazine at one shot, of course you'll get barrel rise.
Some of the things you are saying in this thread, like recoil and physics are an improvement, over GR1, no one is going to argue that. But the thing is, your comparing the RSE engine of 2001, with Diesel of 2006. Have you seen the RSE engine of 2006? It has great physics too, just like any other new engine. Your trying to compare the two engines and their features when one is 5 years newer than the other. Try comparing it to it current day competitiors, because when you do, Diesel and GR:AW PC don't really stand out...
It's like comparing Windows XP with Windows 3.1.

You're right. It's a stupid idea to make a sequel to an already great game and give it the same name then expect it to resemble at some point the original.
I'm glad that's straightened out.
Already was done Rugg... remember sum of all fears? what a flop that was. No wonder they started from scratch.
SoAF wasn't a GR game, and it was put together in a very short amount of time (released 7 months after GR1). I don't understand how that relates to a GR sequel in anyway, because SoAF was never supposed to be one. It was a Clancy movie tie in, a quick one at that.
You do know the GR1 engine has been upgraded, a lot, since then right? GR2, SS, and GR:AW 360 MP all happen to use the upgraded Red Storm engine, so they haven't started from scratch.

Nope. Nothing like that.

-
If it ends up being down for awhile, I have a cunning plan, so don't worry.

-
Rocky is aware of the issue and is working to fix it.

-
I still think LD looks better, with a single video card.... talk about really disappointing.

I imagine RSE did just as well with it as UBI Montreal
Not Montreal, Tiwak in France.

GRAW 360 > GRAW PC
Didn't you say you wouldn't want a port of 360 over PC a few months ago?

*runs*

The problem is that there are no good servers at the moment. Even if you have a good ping to a server you will more than likely see huge packet loss.
There are a number of dedicated servers running already, they aren't all off people's home connections. I know that all of the WOLFServers are dedi's.

Oh geez, I see where this is headed. If people don't have anything nice to say, just turn around and walk away. Think before posting please. (this isn't directed at the thread starter. . .)

-
Isnt Ghost Recon 4 announced already, or it was on some Ubi schedule list? How long will GRAW live then? Is there then any sense for patching, modding, etc, etc? Just askin'....
GR4 has not been announced. The schedule that floated around the net a few months back was not official, according to Ubi.

What do u mean with PPU ?
-M-
PPU=Physics Processing Unit (the Ageia card

ITS ABOUT TIME UBI GOT OFF THERE BUTTSIf you think this stuff is put together overnight, your really underestimating how much work it is to make just the new maps. They haven't been sitting on there butts, they've been working them off creating this content.

But would have RSE come here and listened to the community?
Not to drag this too much off topic, but I have to respond to this. Why do you think RSE hasn't already listened?
Who has been here two years longer than Bo? Serellan.
How much longer has PSekula (level designer) been here than Gaspode? Over a year.
How much longer has Jeff Wesevich (remember the awesome sounds in GR1?) been here than desmond? 3 years.
I can list more direct job level comparions if I wanted to. The theme is still going to be the same. RSE has been here, reading these boards, paying attention to this communitty, for a long time. You can look at both GR2 and GR:AW 360 and see things in those games that were discussed and requested on this forum. I suggest taking a look through the old GR2 PC forums, you'd be surprised how intresting it is to compare the shipped games, and what we dicussed here years ago.
Heck, you don't even have to go that far back. Just look at these GR:AW PC forums, and the way people want COOP to be more robust, and open to more people. Thats been requested in the past as well, but whose already done it? RSE.
Nothing against GRIN, its great having them here as well, but people can't just go forgetting that Red Storm is here too, listening. I've been waiting to use this....

-
What Red Storm needs is more than 5 months to produce a PC game. Building what they did for LD PC (engine upgrades up the wazzo, and all of the art) in 5 months is pretty good. People are ready to play the "they didn't have enough time" card for GRIN, but won't when it comes to Red Storm. *shrug*
-
I'll stick with my free TSW2

-
Can someone enlighten me? Did Red Storm refuse GR:AW PC? Was GRIN cheaper
some how? Was there a contract prior to GR:AW between UBI and GRIN costing UBI
cash while GRIN wasn't making stuff happen for them? Doesn't RSE make PC games
anymore? What happened here? I just started thinking about this and I just cannot
come to a logical answer...
My guess would be that Red Storm did not have the man power to do three titles at once. Remember when GRIN started work on GR:AW PC (November 2004), Red Storm was just finishing up GR2 Xbox, as well as working on R6: Lockdown. They probably had a very small team starting work on 360 MP at the time as well.
Once GR2 Xbox shipped that team focused on GR2 PC (as well as Summit Strike and DLC), finished LD PS2, then that team (LD) moved to LD PC. Ubi pulled the carpet out from under RSE, in regards to GR2 PC because they (ubi) felt the GR2 PC team was better off focusing on 360 MP. Why commit to GR2 PC, while GRIN is already doing a future PC title? They also wanted to get 360 out the door in time for that systems launch. So bye bye GR2.
Funny that in the end both 360 and PC we're delayed, and here a year after we would have had GR2 we finally get GR:AW PC. So in the end it all came down to man power, and where Ubi felt they needed to allocate the resources.

Ok fine..Does it really matter. The average timescale for a game development is 3 years. ###### is your deal with finding small details in every thread I make and correcting me? I unfortunatley cant remember every single detail posted on this forum like you magically can. Give me a break. That has nothing to do with my point. The point is the game was made in a very short amount of time. AND THEY ARE GOING TO ADD THINGS WE WANT.
You've been saying the game was created in under a year over and over. I'm just letting everyone know that isn't the case. I even posted that earilier in the thread. So sue me that I like to make sure people know the right info.
-
Of course its "unfinished" it was created in under a damn year.
The game wasn't created in under a year. Development started in November of 2004.

Agreed, Good post Colin. Takes me back to something Bo said awhile back. "The perfect game for you would sell exactly one copy"
Actually, it wasn't Bo who said that....
The perfect game to you would sell EXACTLY...1 copy.
The perfect game to me, would sell EXACTLY....1 copy.
Take 10 million dollars, build your perfect game, and have a blast. Don't worry about MP support though, you won't need it.
-
I'm still in shock over something as simple as the LAN-only for coop.
You can already play COOP online.

You can change back to the green scheme by scrooling down to the bottom of the page, on the lower left you'll see a drop down box that allows you to switch between skins.

It wasn't started a year ago. Development started in November of 2004.

Then again, I don't ride with the group if somethings wrong. I'm not scared to speak up. But I'm a bit amazed at you surrepticiously aiming the blame back in my direction. Isn't that what you meant by your "not speaking up" comment? If that is indeed the case then you are as guilty as the rest of the fanbois.
Your ready to slam everyone for not talking up and demanding TvT this and TvT that. You know what, maybe you should go read 2 sequels worth of PC forums. There are a ton and I mean a ton of wishlist threads. Plenty of people dicussed plenty of aspects of what they wanted in 2, and then later 3. So don't blame everyone here because GRIN did what they wanted to do, not what this forum (minus your divine influence), asked them to do.
Tell me, why did the GR2, GR3 360 and LD teams at RSE develop more robust MP (Coop and TvT) than GRIN? Don't they all use the same places to gather feedback? Don't the guys from RSE visit here more than GRIN? Serellan alone has been a member 2 years longer than Bo. Why are their (RSE) games more balanced between MP and SP? By your "logic" they should be totally focused on what GR.net wants (you claim that to be SP and Coop MP players only). Intresting that 360 has both 16 player coop (the large number that PC players wanted) and a nice array of MP gametypes and options (PC players on this forum like that too). Kind of puzzling.
Or is it that maybe, wow this is a shocker, RSE looked at their previous titles and built off that? Could that be the answer? Seems plausible to me. So why does GRIN need to listen to GR.net (as you claim sp and coop people only) to design the whole MP portion of the game? Why didn't they just give Serellan a phone call? Why not just fire up GR1? RS? GR2? All three of those titles have the type of MP options we expect in a sequel to an RSE game. Or maybe they had their own design, that they wanted to do.
Forums have an impact, but they aren't going to completey change the entire design of a game. Forums aren't going to lengthen the deadlines set down by the publisher either. Your saying the same thing on every forum, that noone here is talking about this or that so it isn't in the game. It's easy to say that after it ships....
Why didn't you and your friends at TCZ come over, oh maybe last August after WK got back from Germany, and post your wishes? Bo was already here, that would have been the time. Instead you guys are laughing at Rocky today because he's told you you missed the chance. Kind of funny, you think the lack of "true mp players" here is the reason "true mp" is arcadey on ship. Why didn't you guys band together a year ago and make all your wishes known on this site then? If its that important, and you think this forum has that much influence you guys should have done something about it. Not a month before ship, not a week before ship, not 2 weeks after ship. You should have dragged everyone, from all of those clans, over here and start a huge wishlist thread. Because as you say Rugg, forums have a big influence.
So whatever. The game has issues, I think most people recognize that fact, even Rocky. But before you go throwing around blame, which you are, it doesn't take a genius to see that, look around at some of the related titles, and put 2 and 2 together.
Don't even bother to PM me this time.

You do have it, even though it isn't in the inventory. In each bunker there is a glowing thing on the floor that looks like an explosive, you have to go up to it and the game will tell you to use the action key to place a charge. Then...ummm... RUN!

Is it just me or.....

I'm fairly sure only the squad leader hears the kill confirmations. Basically the other players are just taking over the AI bodies, so they don't get to hear all of the information the squad leader does.
