Great post Havoc.
Time playing with the GRNET co-op team will always be tremendous find memories.
I can remember the first time I was ever asked to play in a co-op mission, with comms (Roger Wilco comms not phone LMAO) - I think it was with Alpha Squad, and I had absolutely no clue how a co-op game was played in a competitive environment - right after that I was hooked though.
One enduring memory competitive involved getting some data back to the extract point, before time ran out. The entire squad made it to extract apart from NYR32, who had to sprint like the clappers, with enemy tangos still patrolling the areas, over a large part of the map to make it to the rest of the team. It had been a challenge to get to extract and we were all totally stressed to the max - NYR had to make it back, or the mission was a failure! With the clock ticking down and us yelling like excited kids, he made it over a small bridge and into extract. Mission complete. The feeling of relief and achievement was awesome!
I'll always be thankful for the work, effort and innovation that the squads running competitive co-op games put into the scene, it was a huge time commitment, but everybody got so much out of it.
I've just been back look at the Tactical Elite site, I had forgotten so much about those days, really great days - great guys, great games.
ps, Havoc, isn't steam such a fricking pain when it comes to adding friends, it just never works for me! I tried to add "grnet-havok" and it said no member!
Now talk about bringing back memories. Jeez. Havok reappears out of nowhere, and then posts like this make me really, really miss those days. I really hope a few of us from Team [GRNET] can catch up some time soon.

I am done arguing about this vaporware.
Good, because that means I don't have to waste my time refuting your fabrications.
And I'd rather support Ground Branch than Kickstarter.
I think you're a bit confused, because when pledging on Kickstarter you are supporting Ground Branch. The funds raised via Kickstarter are funding the game.
-
Well, here is my deal from and old school GR1 player. There are a few reasons GB is not getting the funding that it's looking for. The Video is the 1st... While it may excite those of us that loved OGR or can see farther into what the game might be... people that never played it will say... all i see is someoen shooting targets. I see noone taking a bloody shot and limping until someone puts the guy out of his misery. People want to see the blood and guts of the game... they base that on how fun it will be because it shows more than the beginning training.
Dude, it's pre-alpha. That stuff either isn't in the game yet, or is so broken you can't show it. Most Kickstarters, by the way, only have screenshots, "Concept Art" and a talking head. Most projects don't show nearly as much as BFS has, in game, real time.
2nd - Timing - in todays economy someone is only gonna kick start one game. Takedown came out 1st and got the money.Games today cost $60, you can get a copy of GB for $15. I spend that for two days of lunch. Takedown didn't take all the money, they got it from different sources (ie. Socom community and Notch followers) and had more media exposure, both good and some bad.
3rd - History - for those of us that knew about groundbranch and waited years for it's free release... only now to see it going paid if we want it finished. That leads to dissapointment. When was GB ever going to be free? They NEVER, EVER, EVER said it was going to be a free to play game. It has always been a game you would have to buy.
And why i haven't donated - Although i love the fact of an actual injury model (That is the thing i miss most about OGR that is never included in any game since) - I cannot donate to a game that i can only see a training level in a game that was originally thought to be free (or that is how i perceived it) in todays economy after i already donated to takedown which had an awesome video that spoke to us so clearly... there video clearly got into your head. You'll give money to a project that had nothing but words, but one that "just" shows a training level isn't enough. What? Logic disconnect... I didn't pledge for Takedown simply because all he had were words. No engine, no name, no concept images, just words. Haven't we had enough people shoving words in our faces all these years? GB has in game, pre-alpha footage of solid working features, the core of the game. More maps and other content mean jack if those aren't right. What do you expect to see from Takedown when they finally, if ever, reach the same state as GB? You're not going to see a bunch maps all done at pre-alpha. That's not how the process works. Speaking of maps though, John Sonedecker created some some of the best R6 maps ever, and lead the art team for GR. You want good maps, he is THE man for the job.
I do however wish groundbranch the best and i would pay full price later down the road but currently i feel it's a risk. (note its the way i feel, not neccesarily how it is)Personally I'd feel more risk of $200k for "startup costs" walking away than $425k that is directly funding development and release, but hey that's just me.

That was slightly unexpected. Haha. Pretty cool.

To be fair, both here and at Ubisoft on forum there are numerous examples of exactly that, constructive and valuable feedback in long detailed threads. It is the fact that this information is overlooked and ignored by ubi that has created the hostile atmosphere you note.
Yup. We've been doing the constructive feedback thing for YEARS now. I mean at one point we had a heavily moderated GR 2 PC wishlist thread that was entirely constructive feedback, and any negativity was immediately removed. What has all of that gotten us? Nothing much really.
-
Hey Ubi here's an idea. Make a better PC game and people might buy them again. The reason their PC sales are down has nothing to do with pirates, it's their poor efforts on this platform, and overhanded DRM that people want nothing to do with. Other developers and publishers have no problem selling good PC games, so enough with the lazy excuse of blaming :pirate:

Just curious how many of you got the digital version and how many got the DVD? I saw a limited edition DVD version with Return to Karkland and it cost the same as the "regular" version. Does the digital come with that too?
Only the "Limited Editon" comes with Back to Karkand for free. Either download, or DVD. However I think you could only get the Limited Edition, via download, as a pre-order.
-
Not hard, so you have to wonder why they didn't do it.
It's UBI, they don't follow what the real world calls logic. Its not going to hurt anything to simply say yes or no. If they aren't releasing a PC version, it's not like they are killing sales.
-
nice one! did you do our current one?
Yup.

I've just noticed that when adding a reply, all of the previous posts below in 'Topic Summary' have all of the posters' details missing. They're all blank. There's no signature either. After the post is made, all of the details then show.
That's working as intended.

The classic GR target symbol should replace all of the 'thought balloons' as were previously there, and I suppose should now be grey/grey-blue.
Tried that actually, didn't look so good.
This white box I am currently typing in should be replaced with the surrounding light grey colour.I wanted to fix that too, couldn't get it to change though so I moved on to more important stuff. I might go back when all is said and done and try again.
The previous post options of full post or quick post should be reintroduced.Nothing we can do, that's on IPB.
In 'Blogs', the 'Leave Comment' and date words need to be darker. The blogs section still is WIP.
Why has Dannik got a profile photo? He and I are some of the few people who actually have uploaded one.
'Quick' and 'Full' edit have gone!Quick edit is the default now, you can always click "Use Full Editor" after quick edit loads.
Above 'Staff', 'Consultant', 'Supporter' etc. there is a Euro letter! One of those wacky character issues between forum version, an easy fix.
'Vote This Post Up or Down'? What the...?...this isn't YouTube!!!IPB seems to think it is... not that I agree with them.
Does the 'Fast Reply' box need to be permanently open below?Yup.
Aren't 'Report' and 'Unapprove' basically the same?Nope
Where does 'Reason For Edit' appear? -
Tbh in over 24 hours of gameplay i had no issues at all with the DRM.
Until a runaway truck takes down your cable/phone line and your internet goes down. You will really be enjoying your brand new $60 coaster then.

Do you know if the main campaigns for AW1/2 were the same as the PC campaign?
The SP campaigns followed the same plot, but the missions were very different.
-
Hence my reply.
Mine as well, the OP clearly brought RSE into the equation. So "we" are NOT talking about the console version either, "we" are talking about a possible RSE involved PC version...
-
We could all speculate that if RSE is doing the "PC" version that we would get a more "Ghost Recon" game, but us knowing about RSE won't effect the end result.
Knowing what studio is doing what means a lot actually. There was a major difference between RSE's work, and Paris' work, on GRAW1 and 2. The whole feel of the gameplay was distinctly different. It will weight heavily on my decision to buy or not. Heck, if GRIN was still in the picture, for example, I know I wouldn't be picking it up.
-
I just cant see RSE building a game which will surely be aimed at console first and pc last with more then 4 coop slots - maybe we'll be lucky but I'm really sceptical about this if nothing else.
You do know the last Ghost Recon titles RSE worked on supported 16 player coop, right?
-
Why does everything have to be cryptic? It won't hurt anything to say a studio is working on an unannounced title (which EVERYONE knows they are doing and have been doing for 2 years now) or that they are contributing a specific portion of FS.
-
So the PC version is done by another studio RSE??????? fill me in I just came back from work
According to the press release Ubi Paris is doing the 360/PS3 versions, no mention of Red Storm. They haven't said what studio is doing the PC version yet, so it's one of those wait and see deals.
Ghost Recon is 15 years old today! Post your memories!
